What’s sacred in America? Certainly not marriage, considering the
epidemic rates of divorce and extra-marital affairs. The average guy
doesn’t worry too much about marriage. His problem is “homos.” Gay
marriage opponents can watch Elton John (or Liberace) on TV, but they
don’t want to see “fags” holding hands or holding teaching positions.
Christians opposed to gay marriage say that God considers
homosexuality as sin; it follows that a Christian society should not
give legal equality to openly sinful homosexuals. However, while
homosexuals are decidedly less than equal, they do deserve some small
measure of dignity. Jesus wasn’t Hitler, after all. The closet is
not the crematorium.
