Sony/Columbia has reportedly set a release date of August 16, 2005 for
the next Bootleg Series release, a 2-CD collection of live and studio
tracks from 1961-1966. It's characterized as an "outtake collection"
in some of the publicity material, suggesting that well less than the
half the set will be live material, but that's not much to go on. This
is the CD release associated with the Scorsese documentary, but is
apparently not simply a soundtrack release. By some reports, this is
expected to be the final CBS/Sony project from the time period.

The 4-hour documentary, with its title now apparently set as "No
Direction Home," will then be broadcast in two parts on PBS stations in
September. A commercial DVD release will follow, planned for the
holiday season. No word on any additional material.

Chronicles 2 will not be released this year (absent drastic changes in
publishing schedules). Instead, a project with the working title of
"The Bob Dylan Scrapbook" is targeted for fall release, featuring lyric
sheets, manuscript pages, posters, and other ephemera. The trade PB
release for Chronicles is now set for October.

It seems likely that the reported Starbucks release of a Gaslight Tapes
CD will also come in the fall, also piggybacking on the Scorsese
documentary.

Also expected in the near future are a small barrage of articles and
publicity pieces focusing on Dylan's 2005 projects, with the likely
first appearance in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone (Bob Marley
cover).

As always, all of these dates/projects are not set in stone.

I thaught the Starbucks release was debunked? I read it on the daily
news from expecting rain . . .Starbuck wrote back to someone and said
they never heard of it.
I hope it is released so that tracks from it won't clog up the next in
the Bootleg Series. I'm just dreading a Finjan, Gaslight, Freewheelin
outtakes fest. Give us the rare uncirculating stuff!

That song is on vol. 1, isn't it? Wish they'd release an 80's or 90's
live show instead...something from the JJ, Bucky, winston era would be
sweet!

According to many ... there are no known recordings ... according to
others 2 people have a demo hermetically sealed, kept in a #2
mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's porch ...
Personally ... I believe the only known recording is on an FBI
surveillance tape ...

The NET has been amply documented by the Genuine Bootleg Series.

Tongue in cheek somewhat ... There are only rumors about the existence
of copies ... but knowing the propensity of tape recordings whenever a
young Dylan played something ... I would not be surprised if a tape
surfaced from an unlikely source ...

You may remember that Victoria's Secret issued a similar denial
shortly before releasing their Dylan compilation. The Starbucks person
was probably responding truthfully that it isn't on their published
release schedule.

And who issued the denial? The people selling coffee at the counter?

I hope THIS time they release it in SACD/Hybrid format.
The format is being invigorated at the moment by solid classical-music
releases. Sony should show faith by persevering with it in pop as
well.

While I like outtakes as much as the next Dylan fan, I have to wonder:

Does this mean Bob is not planning on recording a new album this year?

I'm asking because it seems over the years The Bootleg Series is often
used as a stopgap release between new material...

Hope I'm wrong!
