Season's Greetings! I have the sheet music to a song called "I Go Pogo", about
the Walt Kelly cartoon character. I was wondering if this song was actually
released on a record somewhere, and if so, if someone could tell me how I might
track it down. (BTW, I should have mentioned that the sheet music I have is
NOT the original music but rather a reprint in a Pogo anthology.) Thanks!

There was a record and song book produced called 'Songs of the Pogo' I've
seen the book in catalogs of old comic paraphenalia. Last time I saw it,
it ran about $100. The book has about twice as many songs as are on the
record. It also has pictures and backgrounds for all the songs. If I
remember right, Walt sang a lot of the songs on the record. My dad has
both. It was one of my favorite records. I've never seen it anywhere
else, though.

Walt Kelly himself sang a wonderfully vigorous version of "I Go Pogo",
accompanied by a Dixieland band, on a 12 inch Lp called, I think
"Songs of the Pogo". Quite a collectors item for Pogofiles.
The rest of the Lp is Kelly songs, but "I Go Pogo" is the only one
that Kelly sings on.

PS: I only paid $25 for mine. $100 sounds ridiculous.

Wrong. Kelly also appears on "Man's Best Friend" and "Lines upon
A Tranquil Brow".

This album was cited by John Linnell of They Might Be Giants as
one of his influences.

Just thought you'd like to know.

"Merry" Keri

P.S. "I Go Pogo" is a great song...

I'm pretty sure that Walt Kelly also does the recitation that makes up the
first half of "Lines upon a Tranquil Brow." He sure sounds like he draws!

I guess this would be a bad time to mention that I paid $2.00 for mine
when I found it in a cutout bin several years ago? >:-)>
A wonderfully loopy album, by the way.
