After reading the below post on what the Dr. posted on his site, and
the comments here, I decided to go look and see. So my confusion
starts.
The information on the Dr. D website for the fan club about what you
get seems contradictory, at least to me.
What is free and what do you have to pay extra for, as far as
listening to the shows?
Do you only get to listen to 2 free shows a week with your membership,
as it states in one place?
Can you listen to the MP3 streams free, as it states in another?
Just what do I get for my money?
What I need is the ability to listen as much as I want, without having
to pay more than the membership fee. If I have to wait a week or
whatever to hear this week's show, fine.
What I don't want is to have to pay for a show, try to listen to it,
get interupted for whatever reason, and have to repay to try again.

Also, programs for recording streaming audio were mentioned here on
rmd. What is/are good programs for under $25 (usd), if there are any.
I have gotten completely out of the loop as far as this stuff goes.

I really miss listening to the Dr. I like things like the Mad Music
Archives, (would like it better if I remembered my logon info), but
the good Dr's comments are what makes his show more than just another
bunch of songs.

Thanks,
Russ-a listener as often as possible since around 1974 when I listened
on KRUX in Phoenix

russ, stop by http://www.TheMadMusicArchive.com and click on the
sign-in/sign-up. If you remember your nick-name, you can click to get
your password mailed to your account on record. Or create a new account
if you have a new email address and don't have access to your old
account.

Welcome back!
We expect quite a few lasped members to return to
www.themadmusicarchive.com in October. Last year they seemed to be
there to listen to the Halloween shows, of previous year(s) and the
current year.

Actually, I just seem to forget that I can listen while I am on the
internet now. If my wife is in the room, I don't. Plus if I don't go
to a site often, I tend to forget it is there. Getting old is a royal
pain.

I forgot how good your shows are. Glad you reminded me about them.

I forgot in the other response to add, that if the Dr. D site was
setup the same way the Mad Music site is, with the ability to choose
from all the shows, unlimited listening, and at the higher data rates,
that I would have no problem paying the $14.95 a month to be a
member.
My wife might have some issues though. :-) She's really demented. she
likes country. bleah.

Russ:

I'm with you on this regarding the price and higher bit rates. In
fact, I'm willing to have a monthly show limit - if that's what it
takes to stay in the good graces of the Good Doctor.

I have not lived in a city that airs Dr. Demento's shows since 1997,
so I went years without hearing him. Thanks to the Internet, I was
able to stay current with his shows via radio stations that streamed
in the past few years. Then it was newsgroups because the streaming
radio stations kept dwindling and I want to let someone who recorded
and posted it into the newsgroups have priority.

As it stands right now, my very last Dr. Demento show (in a quality
format) will be the Oct. 7, 2007. I have no way to listen to him
since the nearest station to me that still has his show is over 250
miles away. My only option is to pay $2/show to him for poor quality
and a "all or nothing" option on his stream working/not working.

I guess that this is the price for growing old.

P.S. I wish someone would get a radio tuner card for their PC,
someone who lives in a city that airs his show, and would make them
available in the newsgroup. I'm willing to pay for quality - too bad
the Good Doctor doesn't seem to understand that.
