Some wise one enlighten me!
I backed him up (on bass) a couple of months ago at Westminster
College in New Wilmington, PA. His conductor on piano, a young drummer
from the local U, a jazz guitar colleague of mine, and myself, on
stage behind him. Still funny as hell, perhaps his impersonations
aren't as sharp as they used to be, but also to be considered, 1. a
good percentage of the folks he does well are dead [tho he still does
Paul Lynde in his show!!] and 2. without a so-called "adult" variety
outlet for his type of entertainment (i..e Carson) his mass audience
TV-wise isn't there anymore. Hate to say it but it was largely a
bluehair-kinda audience that night. Didn't take away at all from how
good he is, tho. Down to earth too and not terribly "dig-me",
pleasant.
ObRMD: So how well-ensconced is the "First Family Rides Again" album
in the land of Dementia? I passed it over zillions of times in the
stores, just couldn't make the commitment to buy it. He does a good
Reagan, but I guess by now the humor must be quite dated (then again I
may be wrong)

I wonder if Rich Little and Little Richard ever get fan mail meant for each
other by mistake....r

That's pretty cool! Was he singing or what?
They just showed "The Late Shift" on TV the other night, in which he
portrays Johnny Carson. That was done only a few years ago. I remember
watching a show of his back in the mid-80s, but maybe it was just reruns
of his 1976 show.

It's an easy album to come buy, and normally pretty cheap, so might as
well pick it up. I happen to have even gotten an autographed copy for
only a few bucks. It can't be more dated than the original First Family
album with Vaughn Meader, some cuts on which are still funny. I still
think the opening track on Rides Again, "Reaganomics", is pretty good, but
to be honest I haven't listened to the whole album in quite a while.

Yes, I thought Reaganomics, Abe Lincoln ("I finallly got even with an
actor.") and the Presidential Card Game (Nixon (stepping on Ford's toe or
some such): "Pardon me, Gerry." Ford: "I already did!") were the best.
Reaganomics hits close to home since the recently re-elected Ontario
government is playing taxcut trickledown economics just like Ronbo Raygun;
didn't work then, doesn't work now.
My brother owned the tape, long since lost. Although I last heard it
around 1984, it have many fond memories of it, like I do of Dr. D whom I
last heard around 1988.

Yeah, it's pretty dated humor, but I would still buy it if I saw it. It was
better than the Kennedy "The First Family". Reaganomics was pretty funny, and
I also liked the track with Mr. Bill and Mr. Sluggo in his new B1 bomber.
A later Rich Little album called "Reagan Slept Here" wasn't as good, but did
have a song called "The Contra Rap", good unless you are the type to go on a
tirade about "lame white rap". Rich Little did another obscure album in 1994
called "The Unclear & President Danger" about the Clintons which was not laugh
worthy. Anybody want to buy mine?
Was that Sid Engel on piano? I've done many gigs with Sid in
SoCal.
