Between recent shows and recent downloads from the archives, I've been running
across Rowan and Martin's bit "The Birds and the Bees" a lot lately...was
surprised when I checked the playlist database to find that the Doc has never
played anything else by them...he's done a couple of things from "Laugh-In",
like JoAnne Worley's song "Why Won't You Come Home, Or The Ballad Of The
Everyday Housewife" (parts one and two), Pigmeat Markham's "Here Comes the
Judge", and assorted recordings by Tiny Tim, but very little variety from
probably the biggest media outburst of funny stuff in the late 60s....
Note that there were performances in the early days of Laugh-In by The Holy
Modal Rounders ("The Right String but the Wrong Yo-Yo"), Wild Man Fischer
("Merry-Go-Round") and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy ("Paralyzed")....r

Come to think of it, there might be enough material in this for a full two-hour
tribute...start with the things mentioned above, add cuts from the two albums of
"Laugh-In" material released back in the day, non-Laugh-In bits by the likes of
Henry Gibson (we heard some of those after he passed away), Dan & Dick, Lily
Tomlin, Gary Owens (very funny bit on one of his albums spoofing the Buddy
Starcher record comparing the Lincoln and Kennedy legacies in which he notes
coincidences connecting Lincoln and Nixon)....
(Hey, is the Doc still interested in "Fantasy Funny 25" playlists?)...r

Funny, I was starting to think the same thing, that "The Birds And The Bees" had been heard a lot lately one way or another, and guess what, the show I transferred for them to post tomorrow ALSO has it! So you get to hear it again. It's a great bit, but I do feel like I've heard it enough recently, although completely by coincidence.
That is surprising he hasn't played anything else! He did play Henry Gibson this weekend though.
I was just wondering about the Fantasy Funny 25 the other day too! I don't know the answer.

This is crazy, but by complete coincidence again, the show I transferred for them to post this weekend ALSO contains "The Birds And The Bees", this time in the Funny Five! I guess it was pretty popular for a while.
