Sing a song of invention

Salutations and hello -

when I was a lad I had an album with the title "Sing a Song of
Invention" or "Inventors." It had catchy 40s' style sounds about the
Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Marconi and more... does anyone have
knowledge of this (who produced it/is it available in some other
incarnation/digital)??

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not familiar with that particular album, but it sounds like it
might be something from Sherman & Larsen or the Crown City Four. They
had an album called Sing A Song Of Sickness, and another called
Sherman & Larsen's Smash Flops, and at least one CD release called Bon
Voyage Titanic - Smash Flops! None of these contain the songs you're
talking about, but what you describe sounds in the same vein, so I'm
guessing it was them.

Yeah, we had that record too. My mom picked up stuff like that at the
Salvation Army.

I remember loving that record as a kid, along with stuff like, "We're
Building a City", and Jerry Lewis reading a story called "The Puppy
Dog Dream".

I'm pretty sure my brother still has those records. I will have to ask
him if I can borrow them to see what's salvageable in digital form...

You have made my day! Since you mention that album, do you recall
another album for children that had a white label with a tiger on it,
and had Big Rock Candy Mountain on it?

Wish I'd had the Jerry Lewis, but my grandmother had a Danny Kaye
record of him singing like a little boy "mommy, gimme a drink of wa-
ter...".

Just scored a beautiful copy on this on eBay. Funny thing is, the
"Eli Whitney" song - the one that I remember most - is not on here!
And the cover on this, though it has the same artwork, is red, while
ours was (I think) blue. The cover says "Album No. 1" - so now I'm
figuring we must've had "Album No. 2"!

Anyways, when I can get this stuff captured to MP3, I'll pass it along
to you...
