This recording has become my most recent "holy grail" record.
For years and years I sought a copy of "Wild
Thing" by Senator Bobby ( a version of the rock song as if sung by
Robert Kennedy with Teddy on ocarina) and finally found it this year
in Rockville, Maryland. Now I can set my sights on" Mayberry Rap"
(I'm guessing that's the title). Unfortunately, not living in
Norfolk, I have no idea what radio station there would have
broadcast such a record in 1988..any leads there?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like a local (Phoenix-area) artist/group (Galen Herod/Tone Set),
who received some exposure on MTV and Showtime in the early 80's. Galen
had recorded one song based upon vocal bites from "Andy Griffith" and
another with with bites from "Gomer Pyle". I couldn't tell you the name
of the song or the album, but this might be a step in the right direction.

That song is on te Z-100 New York Morning Zoo's Greatest hits album Volume 3.
If you live in the NYC area you can usually find it in a Tower records. If
not - ask your local record store to order it.
