I was just thinking how remarkable this friendship is, both pleasant and
beneficial to each of them, as well as a clear talent pool.
"Weird Al" Yankovic has sent Dr Demento those audition tapes which had
provided the exposure that Al needed with the record companies.
Dr Demento received more parody songs that he needs for his radio program.
Here are the three websites that I often head to first for news:
(1) http://www.drdemento.com/
(2) http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris/
(3) http://www.weirdal.com/
What are other sources for "Weird Al" Yankovic and Dr Demento news on the
web aside from these two news groups I have posted in.
Wally
I don't bother with sites based on university servers.

Only "php.indiana.edu" is a university site which is run by Jeff B Morris,
who runs this newsgroup thru that server, by the way Stan.
Least we forget that Jeff B Morris also is a friend of the good doctor.
It was years that professor Morris operated his own website about Dr Demento
before http://www.drdemento.com went online.
J B Morris also has kept a playlist of practicially every Dr Demento show
from the beginning. That same playlist is archived in slightly different
forms at both websites.
Wally
DUH!

So what?

I don't buy that for a second.

And I'm sure that Dr. Demento certainly didn't appreciate it.

So how long has he been stalking the good Doctor now?

I don't "run the newsgroup". It existed before I was on the internet.
Actually, it was started by someone at Purdue University back in the
80s (another university in Indiana, which is a rival of IU in some ways,
although there is a partnership between them called IUPUI).
I do maintain the FAQ for the newsgroup, and have since 1993. But I
don't moderate or control the newsgroup.

This much is true.

Dr. D used to call Tom Lehrer "Professor Lehrer" until Tom finally told him
that he isn't actually a professor. The same is true here - I'm not a
professor, nor even a teacher at IU. I started here as a student and now
work as a computer programmer.

I have been maintaining the playlists for 10 years, and as of last year
finally got every syndicated playlist posted back to the beginning
(July, 1974). drdemento.com has a version of that archive from several
years ago, but they haven't kept it up to date, and last I checked there
were still many invalid links within their versions.
That's believable.

That's not.

And yours, from my understanding.

I stand corrected, you should know that much better than me, Mr Morris.

I (like most Dementoids and Dementites) wish I (we) could be personal
friends of Dr Demento as well.

I simply thought that you were a professor there. I was wrong. But the
computer mainframe that your site is on is within the college campus.

Couldn't you burn a CD-R of the missing sections of drdemento.com's playlist
from your own site and send it to their webmaster? This way both sites might
be up-to-date and accurate.
Wally
You certainly can't do it by being Jeff's friend.

Pity Geocities! Screw Yahoo!
There are many ways this problem could be resolved. I don't have any
control over drdemento.com, so you would have to write them and ask for
an explanation.
Thank you David for what you wrote in your message:

It may not be "authorized" but it does make a few things clearer.
I have been meaning to ask you, David, if you still maintain your videogame
emulator section of your website?
Wally
>I have been meaning to ask you, David, if you still maintain your videogame

the pages that had the links to the section run by somebody else was dropped
during the website revamp. I was going to do an Atari 2600 section, but that never
materialized.

Well I feel bad about that, because some of the stuff that you had there was
both classic and hard to find!
I liked both the Atari stuff and the Nintendo stuff that was there.
Wally
Let's get back to the original topic of this newsgroup posting, mainly that
of the relationship between "Weird Al" Yankovic and Dr Demento.
I have seen the good doctor's numerous cameos in Al's music videos.
What do you think was doctor dee's best or most outrageous cameo?
Has anyone figured out as yet what '27' means in all of Al's stuff?
Wally
Yes. Listen to Alices Resaurant by Arlo Guthrie, that's the first 27 from
what I've seen.
Stan
Nonsense. Just nonsense.
> What do you think was doctor dee's best or most outrageous cameo?
UHF. Stanly. Whipped Cream.
'Nuff said.
