I remember back around 1967 when the Lovin' Spoonful had their minor
hit with "Nashville Cats" someone did a parody called "Nashville Katz"
("Nashville Katz, he runs a kosher deli..."). (I think it may have been
on Capitol Records.) However, despite my huge library of record
reference material, I haven't been able to find any mention of this
record anywhere in the last 30 years, and since I may want to use it for
a pending compilation project it's driving me nuts that I can't track it
down. Can anyone out there help solve this riddle??
Yup, that's an easy one (for this group anyway).
"Noshville Katz" b/w "Shoily Klein", performed by the Lovin' Cohens on MGM
13700. I know Dr. D has played it on the air.
Cheers,
Kevin

Thanks, Kevin! Now, you see, this is a perfect example of the problems
we sometimes have in the musicolalalalogy business. All the searches
I'd done to date had been on "Nashville", which produced nothing. Now
that I have the correct title, "Noshville", even a simple Internet
search engine produces oodles of references. GIGO in its purest form,
eh?
(By the way, my father's cousin has been the rabbi of the Hasidic
community in Nashville [yes, there really is one!] for several decades.)
