Hello, I'm in need of some help in finding this song. I heard it on the Dr.
Demento show a looong time ago, and wondered if anyone can help me out with
it. It goes 'whatsa matta you, ya gotta no respect, itsa not so bad, itsa
nice place, ah shuddupa you face.' I would appreciate it if anyone could
tell me who performed it, and also if there is an MP3 available for it.
Thanks very much!!!

The song "Shaddup You Face" by Joe Dolce I saw on a CD issued by MCA Records of
Canada. You may want to check out a leading record store chain in Canada at
http://www.hmv.com to check on its availability as well as other Canadian
dementia you cannot get in the USA.

GREAT SONG!! Actually hit #1 on one of the pop stations here in L.A.
but I don't think it made the national charts I have the single around
somewhere.

Well, I wouldn't be sure about that now, It was a hit here on the east coast as
well.

Actually, it did. Charted nationally for 14 weeks, peaking at #53.
This reflects a very common phenomenon whereby a song does well in
certain cities/regions while never even getting played in others. At
the time (1981) it was still possible to get airplay for ethnic humour
which, while already outdated, hadn't been declared totally verboten
by the PC police. You couldn't get it played now in any radio venue
(except, perhaps, Dr D's show, which is apparently given a bit more
slack than regular music radio programming).

So do I. :)

(By the way, to correct the header, the actual title is "Shaddap You
Face".)

Maybe I'm weird, but I actually preferred another song from the album, "Ain't
No UFO Gonna Catch My Diesel!" Completely different, but a great song!

"Shaddap" also got a decent amount of airplay in Chicago, though I can't
remember the exact position it reached on our pop charts.

I think Italians are more likely to laugh at ethnic humor like this, since it
was done in good fun and wasn't derogatory. Other ethnic groups are a little
more sensitive.

My Swedish relatives used to howl with delight at Yogi Yorgesson's faux-Swede
songs. Those were the days when the PC gang didn't have everyone feeling so
danged touchy all the time!

It was pulled off at least one NYC radio station. WABC would
play it just once a week, on the weekly survey countdown.
"Well, it's number two this week, so I guess that means I
HAVE to play it," the dj would say at the intro.

Hi- I remember that song too. If I remember correctly it was
done by "Father Guido Sarducci"(a character that used to be on
Saturday Night Live MANY years ago) I think the guys first name
was Don but I'm not sure. Hope this helped.

Don Novello is the man behind Father Guido Sarducci. "Shaddap You Face" was an
international hit by an Australian named Joe Dolce.

Joe Dolce was born in Painesville, Ohio. That's the capitol of Lake County, Ohio. That's where I am from, Lake County, Ohio.
Joe Dolce graduated from Harvey High School and attended Lake Erie College, both in Painesville. He moved to Australia, still has family in Ohio.
