Attention ALL DR. DEMENTO SHOW FANS OF ALL OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...
Thanks to your undying support, "The Doctor Demento Show" is back in Los
Angeles...
AIRS SUNDAYS AT 11pm-1am!!!
Call Dr. Demento on the request lines (if you can get through!):
Now this from D.T.:
We got Santa Barbara, hopefully on 107.7, no word if he's on 1340 as I can't
get either signal from home. Can anyone confirm that Dr. Demento is on there
and if so what time?
Palm Springs has KCLB 93.7 Sunday nights at 8pm.
San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Riverside has no Demento, so let's get hopping!
Other cities may join in.
--------------------------------
DXING DR. DEMENTO IN SO CAL.
Only three known stations in So. Cal carry Dr. Demento, so let's go case by
case.
Case 1: KLSX 97.1, Los Angeles, Sundays 8pm
If you know of any spots where else you can get this signal from these
counties, please let me know.
San Diego County: The Northern part of the county in which I live is far
enough from the local 97.3's transmitter in order to
get the signal clearly there. The old KSCA 101.9 where the Dr. once practiced
medicine in the mid 1990s was drowned out by
the strong prescence of 102.1 in Oceanside. The south part of the county is
very very tricky to get 97.1 as the transmitter at
97.3 is close enough to drown it out down there.
Ventura County: Should be no problem.
Santa Barbara County: Should be no problem for the Eastern half of the
county.
Western Riverside County: Should be no problem, but the Palm
Springs/Cocachella Valley area for some pheonenenomial
reason is getting the 100,000 watt 97.1 from Las Vegas instead of Los Angeles.
Western San Bernadino County: Should be no problem, but 29 Palms and Barstow
may have the Las Vegas 97.1
problem as well.
Imperial County: Sorry, KLSX may exist in small traces as I have picked it
up from near Yuma, but if there's a new 97.1
out there, you're out of luck as far as KLSX is concerned.
Other Counties: If anyone knows, let us share it here.
Case 2: KCLB 93.7, Palm Springs/Coachella, Sundays 8pm
NOTE: I've been using this station to get my Dementia dose weekly since
November 1997. See this section for more.
If you know of any spots where else you can get this signal from these
counties, please let me know.
San Diego County: I drove around the Mt. Helix, Grossmont, and Fletcher
Hills areas just east of I-125 and yielded
several hot spots where you can get the 93.7 signal clearly. Higher altitudes
can help you better. The only possible interference
is from KDB also on 93.7 broadcasting from Santa Barbara, with half the power
and 2-4 times the distance of the Palm
Springs station depending on where you are situated. Borrego Springs and the
low deserts in the north-eastern corner are in the
clear.
Imperial County: The area between El Centro through the western border
should be no problem. East of Holtville results in
a gradual fade. There is a Mexican station at 93.9 that could throw a wrench
into your DXing efforts. Yuma and Blythe are iffy.
Western Riverside County: The station at 93.5, although low-power, can get
in the way of you receiving 93.7. Find a radio
with enough selectivity to weed out the neighboring station and get a
unidirectional antenna. The further away you are from 93.5
and/or closer to 93.7, the better. Higher altitudes can be a help.
San Bernadino County: Same problem with Western Riverside Co., with 93.5
stations in the Barstow and Apple Valley
areas, but it's possible you could get 93.7 from there, I'm not sure.
Twentynine Palms should get it ok.
Other Counties: If anyone knows, let us share it here.
Case 3: KLDZ 107.7, Santa Barbara, Sundays 8AM (can anyone confirm this
please). KIST 1340 went all sports, so I assume that EVERYTHING moved over
there.
If you know of any spots where else you can get this signal from these
counties, please let me know. Basically, AM 1340
comes in strong in the So. Cal area during the day, but they reduce the signal
at night.
San Diego County: two chances: slim and none since KIST 1340 went all sports
and Dr. D may not be on there. :-(
San Luis Obispo: Should come in OK there.
Western Riverside County: very unlikely.
San Bernadino County: very unlikely.
Orange County: may have a chance if away from 107.5 and 107.9's transmitters
and a good selective FM tuner.
Ventura County: No problem.
Los Angeles County: Signal pickup varies, with western portions more likely
to get the channel, but 107.5 may bleed into it.
Kern County: Possible

I'm in the Mira Mesa area off I-15 in San Diego County and I can pick it up
pretty decently.. have to turn off the "auto-tune" thingy on my stereo ($
rack system) and FM stereo to get it, but the good Dr comes in well otherwise.
No roof antenna either, just a simple TV type rabbit ears. 97.3 is usually
playing bluegrass at that time of night, so it's pretty easy to tell right
away if I've got the right station.
