On the newsgroup rec.music.folk, there's a rumor that Tom Lehrer
has committed suicide. I don't believe it --- surely if it were
true, there would be posts on it here in rec.music.dementia ---
maybe one of you could post to rec.music.folk & set us straight.

Thanks.

Hmmm - an interesting new twist to the "Tom Lehrer is dead" rumor. Tom
always enjoys the death rumors.

I just spoke with him Friday, and he seemed in good spirits. I seriously
doubt he has committed suicide in the meantime. (Merely residing in the same
state as the Heaven's Gaters does not make one suicidal.)

He has a new album out today, BTW. See separate post in rec.music.dementia.

Glad to hear that "news of his death is greatly exaggerated". He now
follows in Mr. Clemen's footsteps.

I'm glad he is recording again and that rumors of his demise are
"greatly exaggerated". I spoke with him over fifteen years ago and
STRONGLY encouraged him to record again. He had been enjoying his
retirement and visiting his children/grandchilden and was greatly
perplexed to know that his music was still remembered at all.

How can the album be ordered?

You sure it was the real Tom that spoke with you? Visiting his
children/grandchildren would be a very neat trick, as by his own
account Tom Lehrer has never married and has never reproduced.
(His own words: "Not guilty on both counts!")
