How to record audio streaming

If I google "record audio streaming" there are a lot of choices - but I
never heard of any of them. Is there a reliable popular or standard
program recommended, especially one that includes a scheduler so the
streaming can launch and record streaming unattended onto my hard drive
in mp3 or wma, so I can listen to it later at my leisure?

I use Windows' own Task Scheduler to connect to the streams and play them at the
appropriate times...the tasks for this refer to small ".asf" files that specify
the URL of the stream and how long to let it run for, and it's pretty easy to
find information on how to create such files....

For the actual recording, I use Loop Recorder...it's got a command-line
interface so you can easily set it up with Task Scheduler to start recording a
minute or so after your stream begins, and set parameters like bit-rate and
sample size...it can save files using the LAME encoder as mp3...a nice feature
of this program is that you can have multiple instances of it running at one
time, so when I do my marathon captures of several hours of streaming I have a
bunch of sixty-five-minute recorder tasks set up to start on the hour; the
overlap cuts down the number of songs I have to splice together across the
boundaries....r
