I don't know if Elmo ever did a sequel to "Grandma Got Run Over By a
Reindeer", but radio jock Rick Rumble (then in Philadelphia, now in
Norfolk) did a hilarious followup in the late 1980s called "Grandpa's
Revenge" which starts out (to the same tune as "Grandma Got...")
Grandpa just got even with that reindeer
The one that ran down grandma Christmas Eve
Some folks say they don't believe in reindeers
But look at grandpa's Buick, you'll believe
and so on. It has a graphic, yet tasteful, depiction of deer guts on the
bumper, etc. Thankfully, a demented music fan in Philadelphia taped
this and other Rick Rumble masterpieces (such as "Mayberry Rap") off the
air so we demented Christmas song collectors can still enjoy them today.
I wonder if Rumble is doing any new demented Christmas songs on the air in
Norfolk this year. His station is too far away for me to get on the radio.
Any Norfolk area dementoids out there?

...I saw a CD of "Dr. Elmo" donning the Blue & Silver Wig for "Grandma's
Twisted Christmas" with a big sticker pointing out that Grandma Got Run Over By
a Reindeer was on it--which kind of nullified the last track Don't Make Me Play
That Grandma Song Again. And not counting those two songs, there's three other
songs with Grandma in the title. The cover is almost is practically identical
to the first album with Patsy, just as the title is practically identical to
Bob River's albums. Coincidence? I don't think so. Apparently even Elmo didn't
think this second album could stand on it's own without his one hit wonder, so
I left the album on the rack.
Anybody else have the 18 bucks to spare?
- Sam
It was called "Grandma's Spending Christmas With The Superstars" and was
on his solo album. (He and Patsy got divorced a while ago.) And no, it
wasn't any good.
However, another song on that album was really funny. (The only other
one I heard.) It was called "Don't Make Me Play That Grandma Song
Again."
If you go looking he's listed as Dr. Elmo.

I had about $11 that I needed to get rid of.
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
This is a newer recording of the same old song you probably heard.
Pretty close to the original. Grandpa doesn't sound as deep-voiced
interesting this time.
Grandma's Spending Christmas With The Superstars
The Reindeer sequel. The reindeer killed Grandma, so she's in heaven
now. Elmo is dropping names of dead dudes and not making a very
interesting story. Sing it Grandpa! Grandpa must have died too since
the original Reindeer recording, cuz he sounds real bad on this song.
Send it back!
Christmas Won't Be The Same Without Johnny
Elmo misses Johnny Carson on his TV. This song was good enough to play
the day Johnny retired, or to keep if you are a TV historian.
Grandma's Killer Fruitcake
A twangy country sound about a bad tasting fruitcake for Christmas.
Santa Ain't Coming
Ain't aint a word. Santa says no more ho ho, let the Japanese make the
toys. Kids just say gimme. At the end he hears a kid who says he's got
enough and he would like to share, so Santa gets back into the Santa
bizness. Ho ho hum.
Christmas Millionaire
A song about how Elmo would be a millionaire if he had a hit Christmas
song. Ha Ha That tickles! Oops, wrong Elmo.
Grandpa's Gonna Sue The Pants off of Santa
Another Reindeer spinoff. Grandpa gets a lawyer. Santa gets his day in
court. Who won? The lawyers.
Junk Bond Christmas Blues
Uh, I think another song just went by. Sorry, I'll try to pay more
attention.
Send Me A Wife For Christmas
A wife wish list. (Clues as to why Elmo got that last divorce.)
Here's to the Lonely
A song which doesn't attempt to be funny, but sentimental, about all the
lonely people. (Where do they all come from?)
Don't Make Me Play that Grandma Song Again
Now that really makes sense. Finally a song with merit. Elmer sings
about how Elmo can't even sing. Elves, singing dogs, and some James
Browny "Grandpa's got a brand new nag."

I like the Bob Rivers "Twisted Christmas" albums much better.
