I forget the guy's name, but I think he did guest vocals on a song by the
STRANGLERS called OLD CODGER. Menzy, Levy, something like that.

1. To answer your original question, the song you heard was probably
"Nuts" by George Melly, last played April 2 of this year.
2. Could you give me an example of the search engine not being up to date?
It gets updated nightly with any changes or additions to the playlists.
If this is not working correctly, I'd like to know, but it seems to be
according to the log files I get e-mailed every morning. Can you tell me a
search you performed that didn't show items from the past few months but
should have?
I just did a search for "Christmas On Acid" and it returned a listing
from last year (December 12) and just a week ago. However, I may see
what the problem is. The ones from this year show up at the top instead
of the bottom, due to them being drd00.* and sorting before drd99.*.
I guess this would be considered a Y2K bug! I knew about the issue of
my naming standards on the playlists several years ago, but figured it
unlikely (no offense) that "The Dr. Demento Show" would still be
broadcasting in the year 2070, so I didn't think I'd run into duplicate
filename issues (and I still haven't). I have noticed this little
quirk all year long, I just didn't think it was that big of a deal.
But it would be nice to get things sorted chronologically like they
used to be. I could fix this by renaming the pre-2000 files to
start with a capital D, causing them to sort first. That would mean
some programming changes to the mail auto-responder though, and more
minor ones to the search engine. We'll see.
Thanks,
Darby
