Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the song "The Homecoming
Queen's Got a Gun"?? I can't remember who it's by, except that it's hilarious.

Well, of course it's on the Demento 25th anniversary album....
It's done by Julie Brown.......I'm not sure if she's put out an album.

Sure she did. It's on _Goddess In Progress_, her first and (IMHO) best.
Also got the original version of "I Like 'Em Big and Stupid". In fact
the only song on it that's in any way a dud is "Will I Make it Through
the Eighties?"

Excerpts from netnews.rec.music.dementia: 15-Nov-93 Help : The
Homecoming Queen.. by Jeremy A Kraybill@mail.s

That song was written and sung by Julie Brown back in 1982. It's
available on one of her albums, I don't remember the title of it, and
also on the Dr. Demento 20th Anniversary Collection.

Just for the record, Julie was Homecoming *Princess* in her high school,
not queen. So, you see, this song is her revenge. She was tagged as
"The Lucille Ball of the '90's" by a writer for the Boston Globe.

There'll probably be a ton of follows to this one but...

Julie Brown did the song. Originally released on Bulletz Records (12" single)

It then showed up on a couple of Rhino releases

You can currently get it on Julie Brown's CD "Trapped in the Body of a
White Girl"

Oh yeah, the video is also out there on a couple compilations.

Not exactly sure where you can get it, but the song is off an EP by Julie Brown
called something like "Goddess in Motion" released in early-mid '80's. Other
soare "will I make It thru the '80's", "Cause I'm a blond", "I like them
big & stupid" & "Earth Girls Are Easy". She performed some of these songs in
the movie "earth Girls are Easy", so you can try looking for the soundtrack.
All of the above songs are very funny with great catchy tunes. This is a guess,
but maybe Rhino records in America might have released the EP. More sound advice
available on rec.music.dementia.

I thought the name of the album was "Goddess in Progress", but that's off the
top of my head.

Anyway, her CD "Trapped in the Body of a White Girl" is still in print (I think)
and it's on the Dr. D. collection too.

You can get Julie Brown's music on CD. Some of the titles are "Trapped
In the Body of a White Girl", "Earth Girls are Easy" (Soundtrack) and
"Homecoming Queen's Got a GUn" is on the 30th Anniversary Dr. Demento
twin CD set.

I think that Julie Brown has some really good songs, but most of the
other ones suck. Of "TITBOAWG", there's only 2 or 3 songs I really like,
the other ones I just program the cd player to never ever play. Same
thing with "EGAR". I bought it specifically for the "Cause I'm a Blonde"
song. Other than the movie title theme, I can't stand the other ones.
"Get Your Kicks on Route 66" is OK, but not a JB song.

I think that Julie Brown should produce her own material. It's obvious
from the liner notes that JB doesn't have a lot of creative control over
what gets produced, and as a result, the music really is awful
sometimes, lyric wise.

I have the EP's for "Goddess in Progress" and "Trapped in the Body of
a White Girl". I'm almost positive that GiP has been long out of
print, so you'll have trouble finding that one, but songs like
"Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" and "(I Like 'Em) Big and Stupid" are
on both.

This morning while getting ready for work I had "Will I Make It
Through The 80's" going through my head (which I haven't heard for
years -- I think I last played it New Year's Eve '89->'90) My
favorite is the bridge (from (faulty) memory):
"Gotta grow up, start livin' right
stop sleeping all day, playing all night
Gonna shape up, gonna do it or die
Is that the phone ringing? Oh, Steve honey hi!

A concert tonight? Yeah it sounds great
but I'll burn myself out, can't stay out that late
I mean it this time, I'm taking it slow
Got a backstage pass? All right let's go!"

I gotta get my needle fixed -- I don't have much on vinyl, but what I
do have includes my two Julie Brown albums, "Weird Al"'s first album
(but I also have this on cassette), An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer
(which I have taped onto cassette), and a couple Monty Python
albums...

If you pass the rebid child, say "hammer down" for me.
