Howdy...............
I saw an episode of the Columbo television series, where
Johnny Cash played the part of a country/western singer.
He sang a song called either "I Saw the Light", or "I See
the Light". Did he have that issued on Vinyl, tape, or CD?.
If so, what is the title of the album??? Thanks in advance.

The song "I Saw the Light" is a standard written by Hank Williams. John
does a great job on the song in the "Columbo" episode. However, he never
recorded the song for release on a studio album. However, there is a
version of "I saw the Light" which he did in concert in Germany in 1981
with Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis which showed up on the live album
"The Survivors". It features Earl Poole Ball on the piano, but IMHO it is
kinda rushed and not a great version. I wish the soundtrack recording of
the "Columbo" episode was available. Mark

Howdy.................
By the way Mark, and to anyone else who can help,
what versions of this song by anyone else would you
recommend??? If it was attributed to Hank Williams,
I would think that a number of artists did record it...........
Thanking everyone in advance........You all have been
a great help !!!

Oh yeah! I like Columbo! And this song!

I have this song on a german CD 'Country Express Folge 4'. It is
performed live by Tommy Cash & Stella Parton. It was recorded 1993 on
a country fest in Lich (Germany). I don't know who Tommy Cash is,
maybe he's a german country singer - or is he Johnny's brother????

I don't know whether this CD is available outside germany or not, but
i will list the full title of the CD:

realized by Tontraeger Musikverlag & Produktion GbR
Postfach 1417

I hope this will help you!

Seems the version you have was done by the group, "THE SIBLINGS" !!!

Tommy Cash is Johnny Cash's brother
Stella Parton is Dolly Parton's sister

Tommy Cash is definitely Johnny's (only) brother. He's about ten years
younger and had several hits of his own in the late 60s-early 70s.

Tommy Cash. who had hits with "Six White Horses", "Rise and Shine", "I;m
Gonna Write a Song" and several others, is Johnny Cash's brother, but he
is not his ONLY brother. There were two other Cash brothers (and some
sisters), Jack, who died as a teenager in a horrible sawmill accident, and
Roy, who is also deceased, who used to work at House of Cash. Mark

I saw htat episode here in Perth Western Australia I dont know much
about jonny cash recording it for real. My guess is that it was used
because it is an old folk song that no one knows who wrote it.

But you can here Hank Williams sing it on several albums.

Actually, of course, the song was written by Hank Williams. Mark

Sorry. I realized after I posted it that I meant to say "only living
brother."

What do you mean, "no one knows who wrote it!" Everyone I know could tell you
that Hank Williams Sr. wrote "I Saw the Light." A line from the song is
engraved on his headstone. I'm sure Hank Jr. is very thankful that he did
every time he gets his royalty checks.

Tommy Cash is Johnny's younger brother. He began recording in the 60's
with a few minor hits. Biggest hit was "Six White Horses", sort of in the
"Abraham, Martin and John" vein.

Stella Parton is one of Dolly's sisters. She also had a few minor hits in
the 1970s.

"Six White Horses" was written by Larry Murray. Johnny Cash actually
recorded the song, but TPTB at Columbia Records at the time would not
release it, believing its message to be too much for country audiences.
