Shania Twain's House Is for Sale

Wednesday, August 5, 1998; 7:53 a.m. EDT

DEXTER LAKE, N.Y. (AP) -- Country music star Shania Twain is putting her
Adirondack Mountain estate up for sale, according to a report today.

The asking price for the 3,000-acre property is $9 million, the Plattsburgh
Press-Republican reported.

Twain has had a home here for four years with her husband, Robert John
``Mutt'' Lange, a producer who writes songs with his wife and is credited
with the success of classic rock bands such as Def Leppard, AC/DC and Bryan
Adams.

During that time, they have fought with the Adirondack Park Agency
regarding the construction of buildings, including a studio, on the
property.

Twain, who could not be reached by the paper for comment, will be missed by
many of the residents.

``She was really good to the town, our fire department, the senior
citizens,'' Franklin County Legislature Chairman Ray Susice said. ``And she
gave a lot of work to the people in the surrounding area.''

Twain was a steady contributor to the St. Regis Falls Fire Department,
Chief Wilbur Bailey told the paper.

``She gave us a special donation for our truck, and she even gave us money
toward the ice storm (expenses). It's too bad they have to move.''

Twain also donated a new sound system to the local school district, the
paper reported.

Performed a searched on Dexter Lake and came up with:
http://www.slic.com/~johnboy/index.html

"johnboy" indicates the rumour has Shania living at St. Regis Falls, near
Dexter Lake.

There are a few links to "st. regis falls" search on Alta Vista.
One which gives some great outdoor recreational activities is:
http://www.roundthebend.com/adirondacks/

Anyone getting close to getting her home number?

I think I am getting closer:

According to this link:
http://www.adirondacks.com/educatefranklin.html

The high school's number is:
St. Regis Falls Central School - 518-856-9421
in Franklin county

Here is a map of the region:
http://www.adirondacks.com/adkcountymap.html

At the moment, Local Number Portability is not a telephone network feature
that is available yet, (although in Vancouver, BC, Canada it was a "go" on
July 31, 1998)
so, if Shania and Mutt have a land line telephone it may be between:
518-856-0000 and 518-856-9999.

I suggest this range because the area is very rural and country and the
likelyhood of many telephone 518-nxx numbers in the area is very low.
I think the area is served by just one office, namely 518-856-xxxx

If Shania & Mutt only have a cellular phone, then it will be more difficult
to determine what the number will be.

I think this is far as I will go.

Good work, oh no. Maybe this will keep ShaniaFan9 busy for a while.

ShaniaFan9: Try the (518) 856-9nnn numbers last. In years past, these
were assigned to pay phones, and in rural areas that may still be the
case. Maybe you can get some additional assistance at alt.phreaking.

*RingRing* I think we have the winner in RMCW's "Top Shania
Stalker" contest! Fan9, Joann, and Brian Twitt came close, but
this fan takes the prize for having no life at all beyond his
worship of Shania.
Pick up your prize, a lovely hand-embroidered straitjacket, on

I will not ask for assistance at alt.phreaking because they go too far with
illegal and questionable activities.

Everything I showed you was available on the news brief , a web site and
Alta Vista.
In total, the time it took to grab this information was about less than one
hour.
I actually took a little longer because I had to have some breakfast and
water my garden.

Actually I think alot of us are hooked on this newsgroup too.
I mean, how come so many of us keep coming back for more of the same
punishment at rec.music.country.western?

Day after day, the slugfest continues, but we keep coming back for more.

Like, you have been here for probably longer than me. I just started in
about April '98. What do you think?

So, how bad a phone bill did you run up trying every phone

This is a *discussion* group. Junk like that (and pic files)
just clutters it up and makes the loading *very* slow for
those with slow modems. Can the crap in the future.

My thoughts exactly! I think the Shania-butt-kissing school should come
up with some new lessons. These same old routines are getting stale.

But then again, "stale" describes Shania's music and fans succinctly!

NOT. Any binary file, whether it be jpegs or wavs or mp3s, about any
artist, should never be posted to a text-based newsgroup. Find a
suitable alt.binaries group and post it there. And if you feel it
necessary, post a pointer *only* to it here.

But it's the standard term. And it's predictable that we always get the
same comments from one butt-kisser to the next.

Why do you include the "Group:..." in the quote? Most of us know what

More likely those who don't have *anything* better to do "expect" drop in
on a newsgroup where people don't like the same artist they do, versus
one where everyone does. Or someone who replies twice to the same post.

Technically, no binaries unless the group is alt.binaries... Proper
netiquette is to post the binaries to a web page ( old guy would probably
accomodate them ), and post the link in your message.

However, rules tend to be more of a guideline on the net.

But I would like to take exception to the disparagement posted. There are a
*lot* of attractive women in the world. Just pop over to one of those
binaries groups and check.

Shania is where she is because she can *sing*, has a creative talent (for
writing popular songs ), met the right guy ( who can help write the songs ),
with a charismatic personality, down home country goodness, sensitivity, and
the on stage presence to captivate an audience.

Celine Dione has a better singing voice. Reba Macintire is closer to being
the queen of country. But Shania is an all round person with mass appeal.
Her songs reflect the mood of the country, and the hopes of the people. Her
songs bring a little light into the lives of many, young and old, rich and
poor, plain and beautiful.

To say that she is popular because she is pretty is to damn her with faint
praise.

My opinion anyway.

Since you didn't quote, I have no idea to whom you're
referring, but posting photos only in binary NGs is standard
Usenet protocol. Posting them in discussion groups shows
either ignorance or lack of regard for the posters who have
slower modems and will be forced to waste time waiting foir

Yeah, you got that right!!! Stale also describes the BS about Shania and her
"lip-sync" thing. Some people will stop at nothing to trash her.

St. John said,

"But I would like to take exception to the disparagement posted. There
are a *lot* of attractive women in the world. Just pop over to one of
those binaries groups and check.
Shania is where she is because she can *sing*, has a creative talent
(for writing popular songs ), met the right guy ( who can help write the
songs ), with a charismatic personality, down home country goodness,
sensitivity, and the on stage presence to captivate an audience. "

I say,
But let's not underestimate the power of beauty in "helping" ones
career. There are no doubt some women out there who could sing the
socks off of Celine, Reba, and Shania but because they lack being
physically attractive, will probably never make it in the music
business.

St John continued by saying,

"Celine Dione has a better singing voice. Reba Macintire is closer to
being the queen of country. But Shania is an all round person with mass
appeal. Her songs reflect the mood of the country, and the hopes of the
people. Her songs bring a little light into the lives of many, young and
old, rich and poor, plain and beautiful.
To say that she is popular because she is pretty is to damn her with
faint praise."

I say,
First, that's McEntire not Macintire. Second, I agree. Since her first
album was unsuccessful, one cannot logically say there her career is
based on her beauty because her appearance did not change from her first
album to "Any Man Of Mine". On the same token, one cannot say that
Shania has not used her beauty to "carry" her career.

St. John finished by saying,
"My opinion anyway. "

To which I say,
And keep your opinions coming. That's what makes this a true DISCUSSION
board.

I've been a Shania fan since "What Made You Say That" was played on the radio.
It was only played twice that I heard, but I bought the album and enjoyed it. I
did not buy it because she looked great, but because I enjoyed a song. I bought
her second album also. I didn't realize how sexy she was until I bought her
first video collection at the spur of the moment (I don't get to watch videos so
they were all new to me).

I like pictures of Shania (posted in the appropriate newsgroup, of course), but
first and foremost, I like the music.

To say that she is popular because she is pretty would be wrong, I
agree. You might look back at what I did say, However, and see if it's
not the truth. In fact, I'll go even further and say this...Shania would
NOT be where she is today if she were NOT pretty.

What rules ?
Have not seen a Usenet equivelent of a
webmaster post what is or is not allowed
like on other Usenet groups so for the time being I guess the rule is
only yours.
If you notice I have WebTv and I can't post
pictures if I wanted so therfore this discussion about me changing
Usenet rules is moot.

See "The Mess"'s message. It's about two to one against you so far. I
will go so far as to say that it doesn't hurt when she's singing the
romantic
songs. But I doubt if she would be that far behind if she were fairly plain.

Actually, she isn't all that great looking. Her smile and personality makes
her
look better than she is. Course if you took that away. Hmmm. I guess if you
took away her looks, personality, charm, ... Well. That's not much of a
point..,.

She would still be my favorite writer/female vocalist, even if I never saw a
video
or met her in person. I suspect the actual votes would go much more than two
to one against you on this. Better to say her looks didn't hurt, but the
package is
much more than the sum of it's parts. That happens with some people.

Well you guessed wrong. How dare you question me. Linda and I
have already posted that jpegs and sound files go in an
alt.binaries group, never in a text-based group like this one. Evidently
you have not done your homework before jumping on to Usenet.

Start at news.announce.newusers and read all the posts in there before
you come back, if you have to come back at all.

Interesting "guidelines" glad to know that
rules were not intened to be an absolute
only a "guideline".
Like I said in the previous post..I can't post pictures if I wanted to
anyway so it does not make any difference one way or the
other. At least you are getting a fraction of the grief that you been
dishing out to Shania fans the past few months.
Thanks for the tip anyway !!!!!!!

Yeah, that's a pretty good impression. All the Shania haters sound the same,
and in the end, it's all just blah blah blah blah.

"What Made You Say That" is off her first album which was simply titled "Shania

when she started writing her own songs on her second album.

For fans and bashers of Shania, check out the new issue of MOJO, the
acclaimed music mag out of England. There's a brief music discussion
and Shania raves enthusiastically about Elton John.

Decide for yourself.

Kinda like Garth's KISS Army allegiance, yes??

Guess the King and Queen of Country Music go for that bland, drag queen
dinosaur swill big time.
