I tried my best to transcribe "Jackson" as done by Johnny and June
Carter Cash and I think I've got it all 'cept for one two-word portion.
Near as I can figure, June says she'll be waiting behind her "Japan fan"
and she pronounces Japan as "JAY-pan" I guess she's talking about the
kind of fan that a geisha uses to hide her face. Trouble is, it SOUNDS
like she says "Japan PLAN" which makes no sense at all. Versions by
Nancy Sintra/Lee Hazlewood and The Kinsgton Trio didn't clarify it.

JUNE: They'll laugh at you in Jackson (I doubt it)
And I'll be dancin' on a pony keg
They'll lead you 'round that town like a scalded hound
With your tail tucked between your legs
Yeah, yeah, yeah, go to Jackson, you big-talkin' man
And I'll be waitin' there in Jackson behind my *Japan* fan

Can any of you fine folk help me?

Nope, I think it's "Ja-pan fan." There was a vogue for things Japanese
early in the century, and it even filtered down to the small-town South.
Another manifestation:

Frankie drew back her kimono,
Pulled out her old 44.

("Frankie and Johnny")

Just a theory . . . But the Japanese fashion craze was real, and was
satirized by Gilbert and Sullivan with the line "I don't long for all one
sees/That's Japanese."

Yes I agree. After analyzing the song it has to be Jay-pan fan.

'behind my Jay-pan plan ' ?

'scuse an ignorant English man, Floyd, but Jaypan fan I can
understand, and that is what I always hear, but what does jaypan plan
mean?
