I am not nor have I ever been associated with radio/wycd or anything
else of they type.. I am a listener... the kind of listener who
appreciates a good station

WYCD is unequivocally one of the *worst* stations there is, mostly
because of all the new country music they ignore. I've been all over the
continental 48 states, and I'd say it shares that title with US99 in
Chicago. You seem to be just echoing what their ads want you be believe.
Regarding taking up the slack when WWWW changed formats...all they've
done is sponsor the Hoedown, but why wouldn't they? It's a bigger and
more successful event than the ones they tried to put together in the
past years. They've also come out to the Diamondback on Fridays, but
WWWW pioneered that, too.
Regarding bringing new listeners by playing crossover more...That's one
thing that is cited in the current decline of "country" radio. The
genuine country listeners are alienated by the pop crap and turn it off,
while the crossover listeners go back to pop radio where they can still
hear Shania, Maith, and Fartina.
IMO the good DJs at W4 were John Davis and Kym Austin-Nowicki. But WYCD
didn't pick them up. And WYCD keeps that irritating and annoying Jyl
Forsythe. She must think she's about 5 years old or something. Even if
she acted like a teenager it would be an improvement. And those morning
DJs are the pits as well.
But the worst thing about them is their pitiful playlist. They don't
play anything WWWW didn't--in fact, they play even less than they did.
There's a whole bunch of releases that WYCD has simply ignored, despite
requests to play them. And then they repeat the same crap over and over
each and every day. I don't know how anyone could listen to them for any
length of time.
Not sure where you're located, but there are a number of alternatives:
WSDS AM 1480 out of Ypsilanti at 5,000 watts is the best for a good
variety of older country that's hard to find, and has a super-interesting
expert DJ, but they have limited hours. Right now it's 6-10 AM weekdays,
6-midnight Saturdays, and 11-12 Sundays. Sundays noon to midnight is
bluegrass. The rest of the time they air some boring unnamed network
that just repeats about the top 5 from the past 20 years. I don't
recommend that, but their own programming is the best.

WSM AM 650 out of Nashville at 50,000 watts is great on weeknights, and
on weekend nights with the Opry. Weeknights, country music encyclopedia
Eddie Stubbs plays a variety of new country music, as well as digging out
the deep catalogue stuff that you don't hear all the time. After 1 AM,
the Opry Star Spotlight show is interesting as well.

WJR AM 760 out of Detroit at 50,000 watts airs the Bill Mack Trucking
Network after midnight. He's an influential person in country music who
plays most all of the new stuff, and a good selection of the old.

As for FM and new country music: Around Detroit, CHYR at 96.7 plays
new American (and Canadian) country music that WYCD ignores. Adrian has
95.3 with a bigger playlist. Toledo has WKKO at 99.9 (WTOD 1560 AM is
the same thing). Lansing and Saginaw also have country stations that
play music ignored by WYCD.
In summary--anyone listening to WYCD will be missing a whole lot of
country music.
BTW, is this Hoedown thing worth the trip from Nashville to Detroit?
I've never been to Michigan....

"Murder's been committed down on Music Row."
i'm afraid I have to agree completely with this sentiment..After requesting
them to play Real Live Woman at least 5 times a day I was told they hadnt heard
of the song and had no idea when they would add it to their
playlist..considering it was in the 30's on Billboard at the time I found that
kind of hard to believe..They are also lousy at answering emails and returning
phone calls....
lisa
Yes, and I keep it on whenever possible. Eddie is so interesting and
informed and adds a lot to playing the music.
> BTW, is this Hoedown thing worth the trip from Nashville to Detroit?

My recommendation would be to make the focus a trip to Michigan or
Detroit, on the weekend the Hoedown is on. That way if it rains or for
some reason you don't enjoy the Hoedown, the purpose of the trip will
still be fulfilled. So far it has never rained both nights.
I've been going ever since they started, and always had a blast. It is
huge--one of the largest in the industry, and one of the largest
gatherings of people in general, they say. And the lineup this year:
Trace Adkins on Friday, and Tracy Lawrence and Mark Wills on Saturday.
Wow! Maybe Deb will hit it on Saturday??
Let me know if you do decide to go!
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! Yeah right and whose gonna pay the tow bill to tow
me back from the Ohio border? Cuz thats as far as that GTA is gonna
make it! LOL............would love to Scott, but with the car as
cranky as it is, just having a new Grandson (april 1st), and another
daughter's wdding on the 15th, theres no way I can swing anything
else! LOL......But hey you tell him that crazy blonde from Ohio
(Cherry) says Hey!!!!!!!
[snipped for brevity]
Of course, the following suggestion will only work if you're somewhere near a
computer...but with all the stations who's broadcasts are carried on the
internet now, you can certainly find a lot of great music. In the car, the
technology's not quite there yet - but soon.
