Yesterday I was listening to a C&W show on a radio,and they
played (right after Merle Haggards "Okie from Muskogee")an interes-
ting song called "I'll fix your flat tire,Merle".I didn't
catch the band's name but the lyrics were...not really nasty
but close.I guess this had something to do with misunderstandings
about the lyrics of "Okie from Muskogee".Has anyone more of this
group or any juicy details?

This was on BigBrother and the Holding Company's only post
Janis Joplin album. Nick Gravenites might have written it. This
was back when Jesse Colin Young was doing "Hippie From Olema".

That was Pure Prairie League. I believe it's on their third album,
"Two Lane Highway".

And by the way, I'm jealous that you actually have a station that will
play these songs. Most of the country stations in the US wouldn't
dream of playing either of them.

Yes indeed, Ted's source it back farther than I did! :-) I just checked
the Pure Prairie League album and, sure enough, it was written by
Nick Gravenites! I hope I get to hear the Big Brother version some day.

"Hippie From Olema"'s another blast from the past. It was on an old
Youngbloods album whose name escapes me now. Unfortunately the album has
escaped me as well. I managed to lose it somehow over the years, probably
by the usual method of lending it to a fellow bandmember to learn a song.

The name of the Big Brother album is "Be a Brother", and the song
was indeed written by Nick Gravenites. Richard Greene plays the
fiddle and Kathy MacDonald does the backup vocals.

I seem to recall the song being covered by someone else. Pure
Prairie League maybe?
