Maybe someone can tell me why the major artist are aloud to have a booth
at
Fan Fair when they don't come to sign autographs even for 1 hour out of
the week.
To me Fan Fair is for the fans to meet their favorites and the artist to
give a little something back to the fans who can make or break them.
There are many independent artists
who would jump at the chance to get some new fans and would be happy to
be there each day all day long.
Thanks
Nancy

And many independant artists get booths at Fan Fair. And I've walked past
their booths, and watched them sitting there all alone, while everyone else
stands in line all day to see Vince Gill. Let's face it...most fans don't
go to Fan Fair for an education. They go there to meet bonified stars.

My point is if a major star like George Strait (who I love) won't
come to sign autographs and pose for pictures he shouldn't be aloud
to have a booth. I went to fan fair for many years and loved meeting the
independent artist just as much as the big ones.
Today's independent artist maybe be next years big hit.

And don't forget that this year's newcomer can be next year's superstar.
I recall Randy Owen from Alabama telling me that their first year, they
sat in the booth hour after hour, having long conversations with the few
people who dropped by. The next year, you had to stand in line for hours
just to get their autograph.

I once talked to the folks at George's booth about that. They tell me
they're there for very specific purposes, and that's to speak with members
of George's fan club, sell George's merchandise (especially helpful, since
George is only touring in 18 cities a year), and offer information to
people curious about George and his fan club. These booths are sanctioned
by the International Fan Club Organization and the Country Music
Association.

It's been my experience that there are many independant artists who have
booths, as do many artists who once had hits and don't have deals anymore.
Artists like Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn, and Donna Fargo all have booths.
They all go and sign regularly.

The fans would certainly prefer it if George Strait, Hank Jr., and Reba
would come to their booth at the fairgrounds. But signing autographs is
not the only purpose those booths serve. And the booths are not free. The
fan clubs pay for the opportunity to be there. And I understand it ain't
cheap.

Hey Country Boy, what's a bonified star? A star using viagra?

Probably. How do you think they develop an "enterage"?

I for one do not stand in the long lines, I go to the new artists booth, you
don't have to wait long and they are friendly and take their time with you
That's how I first met Mila Mason and she was just a doll!

In the two fan fairs that I have attended I never waited in a long line, the
only lines I waited in were with the newer artists, who were super friendly
and took their time to talk with you. Thats how I met Mila Mason and she was
just a doll. Lisa Brokup and Jeff Carson are always super nice to you; I
highly recommend anyone getting in their lines. Wait three hours or more
for Shania - I think not. I would wait longer for Garth but wasn't there
the day he showed up - I was at fan club parties - bummer.

Ah, yes, another opportunity to jump down my throat. You're so perfect.
Someday I'll be just like you. But you'll still hate me.

I think they should find some way to give preference to artists who
actually show up. Like restricting artists who aren't going to sign to
*one* space rather than two or three. And put those booths is
out-of-the-way buildings since they don't need security just to sell
stuff. There should be some way to make it more equitable and still let
the fans get what they want from the superstars.

I like to go to some of the "unknown" peoples booths. They are usually very
friendly, etc. some of those at the IFCO booth are great performers as well,
they just haven't gotten a break as you might put it. I also like to look
for the newer artists at the magazine booths. One year you can walk right up
to them and the next year you can't get near 'em! Have fun with all of the
artists! Live a little!
