The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.
Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the
country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."
She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie
Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.
"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that
was it," Maguire complained.
"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."
Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide
to break with the scene, Maguire said.
"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.
"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."
They were talking about doing this a year ago August. That was well before
their comments in London.
Let me know when Loyd starts producing ZZ Top.

Just about says it all, doesn't it? (sigh) I remember when she was a
fiddler... I think the abandonment of the country industry was inevitable
anyway. They began to remind me of Springsteen about the time he dropped the
E-Street Band and went folk.
I think an appropriate song for them to re-work as the lead for their next
album would be "Family Tradition."
They get on us, wanna know,
"Chicks, why do ya think?
Why do you make jokes?
How did you see through the smoke?"
Over and over, everybody made our predictions
If we get stoned and play all night long,
it's a family tradition
Or something like that.
I'm not surprised.
Here's what was posted a few days ago on Countrynation.com
Dixie Chicks not ashamed of VH1
-- The Dixie Chicks new music video for "Top of the World," as well as a
behind-the-scenes special, premieres next week on VH1.
Directed by Sophie Muller and shot in London, the video seeks to capture the
essence of the song by portraying a man who has died and is looking back on his
life wishing he had been a better person. In the clip, each of the Dixie Chicks
plays a woman in the man's life at various stages.
"VH1 All Access Spotlight: The Dixie Chicks" premieres Monday, September 22 at
9 pm. The special goes backstage on tour, and behind the scenes for the filming
of the new video, which premieres immediately following.
Thank you RK. I was wanting them to release Top Of The World. I am
disappointed that they have chosen to do so on VH1 and not CMT.
Not me. I've been CMT free for almost 2 weeks now. It kept getting worse
and worse until I had to set my TV to skip over the channel.
Since all of the new videos can be streamed at their website (cmt.com & the
Chicks one will be on vh1.com tonight) I'm not missing a thing.
I would watch GAC though. I called my cable company and they said it is
currently their most requested channel. Hope they dump CMT and put GAC in
it's place. Not only is it more country, since the channel is not as well
known I bet the cable company could get the rights to distribute it a much
lower price than CMT. Everyone wins.

The Chicks are not totally blameless in all of this Pete. Yes they had the
right to speak their minds and I heard many artist back them up on that. IMO
the artist started to really back away from when when Natalie wore that Tee
Shirt on the awards program. She has the right to wear whatever she wants,
but there is a time and place for everything and honestly that was not the
time or place. IMO: I feel the other artist may of gotten tired of the
fighting that had been going on for a year. It seems that whenever an artist
did an interview they were asked about it. So how is it fair to anyone else
in the industry that is trying to promote their product when they are
questioned about TK and NM.
What all it says is that the ananova piece was either written or translated
by someone unfamiliar with the idiom. The original story was written in
German for a German publication, and I don't know that they have a different
word for "fiddler" than for "violinist" <g>. I looked at the original
interview, but my German is exceedingly rusty, to say the least.
Personally, I'm going to wait until I either see a good and complete
translation of the interview or until the Chicks say something in their
native tongue on the subject before getting all worked up <g>.

Yeah, but on the other hand, my money says if the president was on the OTHER
side of the political spectrum and Natalie said basically the same thing and
the Chicks' career suffered like it did, you and your ilk would be rejoicing

hypocrisy can be found on both extremes.

Erik is 100 percent right here. If Albert Gore Jr. had been allowed to take
his rightfully elected place in the White House and someone like Charlie
Daniels, for instance, had said "I'm ashamed the President is from

And what was the President wrong about? Are you upset 23 million Iraqis are

Well, Hooey, I wouldn't go THAT far. I'm a conservative myself, but while I do
think that entertainers of ALL political persuasions should keep their politics
off the stage and stick to the music, I for one am completely disgusted with
how country radio and the country audience have treated the Chicks since
Natalie made that statement on that London stage. That's made us conservatives
look far more ignorant than any of Toby Keith's drunk-redneck pub-bully
boasting. I didn't and don't share her sentiment, but I didn't vote for Dubya
because his favorite country singer is George Strait, so why should I smash all
my Chicks cds because Natalie trashes him? But you are right, there are those
of us on the right who would have celebrated Charlie saying something like
that, though I would contend that there are those on the left who would have
the same reaction that those on the right did about the Chicks.

Pete if I recall after that award show many in here that supported the war
and the Chicks agreed on one thing, that shirt was not appropriate for that
show. That show was not a place for Reba's jokes or that damn tee shirt. TK
and NM are completely at fault, they are both grow adults, but neither one
of them were big enough to back down until this summer. Sadly it took a
death of a child to make one of them grow up.

Pete, the Chicks being entertainers should of known if they were going to
speak out that there would be groups not in agreement with them. You know
this as well as I do. They spoke out about a very hot issue and found
themselves on the front burner. That is the media's fault and their
publicist fault for not shutting them up and telling them NO MORE
INTERVIEWS! If I was their PR person I would gotten on the first plane with
a credible reporter from the states and had it cleared up right then right
there. I would not of allowed them to do any more interviews on that issue
overseas. A mountian was made out something that could of only been a mole
hill.

WAS IGNORANT.

You would. At this point in his "career" Clint would say he spoke to

They lost more than just Pete's respect. You can discount it all you want
but every country music fan isn't some right wing nut job walking in lock
step behind the President. A lot of them obviously are, but not all.
BUT LOTS OF PEOPLE DON'T THINK ANYONE WHO HAPPENS TO LIKE THE SONG IS
IGNORANT!
> You would. At this point in his "career" Clint would say he spoke to

> Can you say, "Career is over"?
Don't you see that you're just as guilty as those that you're infuriated
with over trashing the Chicks. Clint stated his opinion and you're all over
him. Darryl Worley (a decent talent and good traditionalist) records a song
with a political tone that you happen to disagree with and you trash him.
I'm sure there have been others.

Try to keep up, Dumbo. :) Nobody EVER said they didn't have a right to say
whatever they felt like saying.
The reality is, that just like Jane Fonda, there appears to be an awful lot of
people who don't just disagree with what they had to say, they seem to be quite
angry about it.
They have a right to say whatever they want, but the American people have a
right to their own feelings, about what the Chicks have to say.
Sucks to be them, huh? :) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>I believe that's called... Free Speech.<
Try to keep up. :) Might want to go to "training wheels.com" .:)
I have always wanted to ask this question. Who gave Natalie the right to
speak for a lot of people on this issue? I never thought the song was
ignorant, I just did not like the darn thing.

> You would. At this point in his "career" Clint would say he spoke to

Clints career isn't over. If you are basing your theory on current airplay,
he hit a rock, the same rock that so many of our greats have hit. Just
because you don't hear them their careers are not over. I understand that
Mr. Black produces and other things. You don't always have to be in the lime
light to have a career in music.
> Try to keep up, Dumbo. :) Nobody EVER said they didn't have a right to say

Your wrong...
Lots of people said that they had no right to say what they did.
What the hell are you calling me names for?
What did I do to you, other than have a different opinion than you?
Why are you such a negative person?
True...I think Clint will be just fine. A lot of people said his career was
over when he "went Hollywood" by marrying Lisa and supposedly being
"masterminded" by her Hollywood mother, Joni. People were saying crap about
Joni as if she was the Wicked Witch of the West Coast...when in fact, she is a
GREAT lady and originally from Houston, not Hollywierd....P

Um, I don't recall Natalie saying anything about speaking for anyone else.
