"Who was this lonely country poet who burst on the scene in the late sixties, gifted with a voice comparable only to the likes of Hank Williams and George Jones? Mickey Newbury was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and began singing and writing at an early age. As a teen, he allegedly spent a year virtually locked up in his room, listening to music and reading writers like Edgar Allen Poe."
