I would have placed Gene Autry far ahead of the Eagles on this list.
But, BTW, does anyone know how many more of those 'farewell' tours that the
Eagles plan on doing?
WHAT?
That's why I don't believe in such lists. No one can really rate who's #1
or #20 or whatever.
>
I agree that most of the people on the list should be there, but I thought the
list was supposed to include the influence the performer had on country music.
And yet, Jimmy Rodgers, the Father of country music, at #33?
And Roy Acuff at only #14? Ernest Tubb at #21? Eddy Arnold at # 22?
If Gene Autry is included, why isn't Roy Rogers also there? Where's Ray
Price? And Jim Reeves? And regarding groups...If Alabama is included, why
not the Statler Brothers and the Oak Ridge Boys?
In my opinion, this list is useless and without a reputation for honesty and
integrity. Any time this list is mentioned, I will simply ask the question:
"What number is Marty Robbins on the List."
Barbara Pruett
At least Vince made the list. There were too many un-fair high placements
and too many low or not-even-made-the-list placements.
Mel Tillis and Flatt & Scruggs should have been higher IMO. Alabama and
Alan Jackson belong much much lower. Then there are those who didn't even
make the list. Travis Tritt should NOT have been the cut-off point.
And as for Megan Mullally, our host. Love her, love her, love her. But I'm
just not used to hearing her real voice. Her 'screechy voice sounds so much
more natural as her character Karen on 'Will & Grace'.

The Eagles have no place on that list.
I missed the omisson of Marty Robins at first but wondered about Hank Thompson.

Amen to that, for sure.
Unfortunately, they not only were attempting to present the 40
greatest men but seemed to have even a higher purpose of presenting
the 100 greatest (or not) commercials.
Is there anyplace where the list exists? I couldn't handle the

Linda C.
Interesting that the same thing happened with the women's list. #7-#40
provoked a lot of debate, but you couldn't really argue with the top 6: Patsy,
Tammy, Loretta, Dolly, Emmylou, Reba. That's as solid as Cash, Hank, Jones,
Willie, Waylon and Merle.

They haven't *done" a "group category. Probably because there aren't 40
country groups worth mentioning. Alabama was the first group to win
entertainer of the year and dominated the country charts for the first half
of the 80s. They had an amazing string of #1 hits that's up there with Conway
& Merle. All that should count for something.
> And Collin raye should also
> be listed there, he's awesome!
Nah, he was one of a series of faceless artists that came and went in the
90s.
> And the Eagles are in it? #1-there also a group #2- Most people I know

I don't think they belong there either, although they were certainly a major
influence on the current crop of country acts.
I would have liked to see more legends, but I totally agree with the top six.

> Linda C.
Conway and George Strait and maybe Ronnie Milsap, but I don't think Merle's
anywhere close.
Ray Arthur
As of 1993, Conway had 40, Merle had 38 and Milsap had 35. I doubt any of them
had another #1 after that. Alabama had 31 and Strait had 25 but both probably
had more.
Linda C.
Wow. I sit corrected. I thought Haggard was in the 25 range.
I think that Strait & Alabama are both hovering around 41 now (but I was
wrong last time). I assume that these are Billboard #1's. When you add in
other publications: R & R, Cash Box, Record World - which was the marketing
policy of most artists and record companies - Conway pulls away with 55.
While the others pick up a couple each.
Ray Arthur
Yes, but his "day" only lasted, well
about a day.
yeesh...
I'd remove:
Elvis Presley - King of Rock 'n Roll
Kenny Rogers - Pop
Roger Miller
Glen Campbell - pop
Ronnie Milsap
Charlie Daniels
The Eagles
Mel Tillis
and add:
Charlie Walker
Tracy Lawrence
Carl Butler
Bill Mack
Webb Pierce - how could he not be there??
Scott??? Remove Ronnie Milsap? I always liked him......Kenny Rogers,
while he seems a nice guy and all, I agree.......Glen Campbell, no
expanation necessary.......The Eagles? agreed..........And while Elvis
was a country boy, he's' more known for rock and roll than country, so
I agree there.....Mel Tillis I always kinda liked.......Roger Miller I
kinda liked..........
Deb
I think some of these acts rate because of their influence on artists
that came later. The Eagles and Elvis both qualify. I think some of the
older artists (espcially the ones dead for more than ten years) have
kinda slipped through the cracks of history.
Linda C.
>Elvis Presley - King of Rock 'n Roll
Elvis may be considered by many the King of Rock and Roll, but he did this
by fusing Bluegrass, Country, and Blues.
>Kenny Rogers - Pop
Kenny Rogers was the Garth Brooks of his time.
>Roger Miller
I think he should be listed primarily for his songwriting, but look at King of
the Road and Dang Me. He didn't just write hits, he wrote classics.
>Glen Campbell - pop
I would have liked to have seen a little bit more attention paid to Glen
Campbell teh session musician. This was covered, but not nearly well enough
for my tastes.
> Ronnie Milsap
he mixed pop and blue-eyed soul with country.
>Charlie Daniels
Charlie mixed jazz, rock, & boogie with country. He brought a lot of fans into
country music in the 70's and was the creator of Southern Rock.
>The Eagles
I haven't been an eagles fan since Bernie Leadon left, but there is no denying
their influence on country music today.
>Mel Tillis
I think Mel Tillis should rank higher than all the people mentioned thusfar. Look at his song writing credits.
>I'd remove:
>Mel Tillis<
I hope you're kidding.
>and add:
>Tracy Lawrence
>Carl Butler
>Bill Mack<
I SEE you're NOT!!!!!!! Tracy Lawrence and Carl Butler are funny enough, BUT
BILL MACK????????????????????????
Please.

Please. You get MORE ridiculous by the day. Get a boyfriend!
>Then, I would add:

I'm sure YOU would. However, try to remember that this is the "real" world",
and remember that even Clint and Marty would tell you that they have as much
business on that list as you do! :)
Stick to what you know, if anything.
P.S. - Don't forget "Annette Funicello and "Dion And The Belmonts"! :)
Who the HELL came out with this list? Better yet, who the HELL committed money
to this idiot, to write a book about it?
Johnny Cash #1? :):):):):):) Now THAT'S funny.
No wonder he's hospitalized.:) If someone ever told him the conclusions of the
book, he would have immediately thought that he was imagining things, and would
have admitted himself!
What a joke! Is this book classified as "Comedy"? "Satire"? "Fiction"?
"Science Fiction'?:):):):) LOL!!!!!!!!!!
>Roger Miller I think he should be listed primarily for his songwriting, but
look at King of the Road and Dang Me. He didn't just write hits, he wrote
classics.<

You son, are PRICELESS! NOT very well informed when it comes to Country music,
and it's history, but PRICELESS none-the-less! :)
P.S. - Be sure and forward your latest "gem". to your editors! :) You've just
about assured, that like "Whines" berger, your career will consist of giving
your opinions and reviews away for nothing, BECAUSE that's what they're worth!
:)
>I would have liked to have seen a little bit more attention paid to Glen

HELLO!!!!!!!! NITWIT!!!!!!!!!!! That's the ONLY reason Glen Campbell is even
remembered! :) Have you EVER listened to one of his albums? :) I didn't think
so! :) Stick to what you know, if ANYTHING!
Before I killfile you again for the 234th time...why don't you put you tiny,
little country music intellect on the line. Instead of just sitting in the
