belonged in the top 10 heck to me many of the positions are off but what

I'm not happy about Clint Black being ignored. I think I might boycott CMT

Clint Black wasn't who I had in mind to add to the list :)
I was thinking along the lines of A.P. Carter, Jim Reves, Marty Robbins,
Faron Young, Hank Snow, Harlan Howard when I said they left people off.

Thanks

19? Tim McGraw at 26? Go figure!

Marty Robbins; what was his position in the top 10? He wasn't there? You
mean he was only in the top 20? I didn't think he'd be that low on the list.
He wasn't there? What do you mean? You keep saying he wasn't there..... Not
on the list at all? That's not possible. Wasn't the list about country
music? Who put together the list? Did they know anything about country
music?

I agree that most of the people on the list should be there, but I thought the
list was supposed to include the influence the performer had on country music.
And yet, Jimmy Rodgers, the Father of country music, at #33?
And Roy Acuff at only #14? Ernest Tubb at #21? Eddy Arnold at # 22?
If Gene Autry is included, why isn't Roy Rogers also there? Where's Ray
Price? And Jim Reeves? And regarding groups...If Alabama is included, why
not the Statler Brothers and the Oak Ridge Boys?

In my opinion, this list is useless and without a reputation for honesty and
integrity. Any time this list is mentioned, I will simply ask the question:
"What number is Marty Robbins on the List."

At least Vince made the list. There were too many un-fair high placements
and too many low or not-even-made-the-list placements.

Mel Tillis and Flatt & Scruggs should have been higher IMO. Alabama and
Alan Jackson belong much much lower. Then there are those who didn't even
make the list. Travis Tritt should NOT have been the cut-off point.

And as for Megan Mullally, our host. Love her, love her, love her. But I'm
just not used to hearing her real voice. Her 'screechy voice sounds so much
more natural as her character Karen on 'Will & Grace'.

I agree with all those who said the CMT list is questionable at best.
Once I saw that Lefty was ranked in the low 30's, I knew it was going to be
tough countdown.
Dwight Yoakam is too low at 39. No Ray Price, Marty Robbins or John Anderson?

Interesting that the same thing happened with the women's list. #7-#40
provoked a lot of debate, but you couldn't really argue with the top 6: Patsy,
Tammy, Loretta, Dolly, Emmylou, Reba. That's as solid as Cash, Hank, Jones,
Willie, Waylon and Merle.

Alabama?? Why are they listed, their a group, yes a group of men but still
a group and should be listed in the group cat. And Collin raye should also
be listed there, he's awesome!
And the Eagles are in it? #1-there also a group #2- Most people I know
consider them Rock-n-Roll. They are a excellant "Group" though.

There ya go, Scott. Qualification for Country's 40 Greatest Men...

"he Rocks!"

My adjustments (on & off) to that list would be as follows:

(Here's THEE list again):

1. Johnny Cash
2. Hank Williams, Sr.
3. George Jones
4. Willie Nelson
5. Waylon Jennings
6. Merle Haggard
7. Garth Brooks
8. Conway Twitty
9. George Strait
10. Alan Jackson
11. Alabama

12. Buck Owens
13. Randy Travis
14. Roy Acuff
15. Elvis Presley
16. Bill Monroe
17. Vince Gill
18. Charley Pride
19. Kenny Rogers
20. Hank Williams, Jr.
21. Ernest Tubb
22. Eddy Arnold
23. Roger Miller
24. Flatt & Scruggs
25. Brooks & Dunn
26. Tim McGraw
27. Bob Wills
28. Chet Atkins
29. Glen Campbell
30. Ronnie Milsap
31. Lefty Frizzel
32. Charlie Daniels
33. Jimmie Rodgers
34. The Eagles

35. Mel Tillis
36. Toby Keith
37. Ricky Scaggs
38. Gene Autry

39. Dwight Yoakum
40. Travis Tritt

First, I would delete I would delete:

Alabama

Flatt & Scruggs

Brooks & Dunn

The Eagles

And put them in a third list/show: Groups & Duos

I would additionally delete:

Toby Keith

Travis Tritt

Then, I would add:

Clint Black

Jim Reeves

Marty Robbins

Marty Stuart

Hank Thompson

Webb Pierce

They haven't *done" a "group category. Probably because there aren't 40
country groups worth mentioning. Alabama was the first group to win
entertainer of the year and dominated the country charts for the first half
of the 80s. They had an amazing string of #1 hits that's up there with Conway
& Merle. All that should count for something.

Nah, he was one of a series of faceless artists that came and went in the
90s.

I don't think they belong there either, although they were certainly a major
influence on the current crop of country acts.

I would have liked to see more legends, but I totally agree with the top six.

Wow. I sit corrected. I thought Haggard was in the 25 range.

I think that Strait & Alabama are both hovering around 41 now (but I was
wrong last time). I assume that these are Billboard #1's. When you add in
other publications: R & R, Cash Box, Record World - which was the marketing
policy of most artists and record companies - Conway pulls away with 55.
While the others pick up a couple each.

I think some of these acts rate because of their influence on artists
that came later. The Eagles and Elvis both qualify. I think some of the
older artists (espcially the ones dead for more than ten years) have
kinda slipped through the cracks of history.

but trust me on this one Jethro, this is THE funniest one you've EVER written,
in your lifetime of ridiculous posts. This baby should be preserved, as a
bumper sticker, or better yet, as a license plate frame.

You son, are PRICELESS! NOT very well informed when it comes to Country music,
and it's history, but PRICELESS none-the-less! :)

P.S. - Be sure and forward your latest "gem". to your editors! :) You've just
about assured, that like "Whines" berger, your career will consist of giving
your opinions and reviews away for nothing, BECAUSE that's what they're worth!
:)

>I would have liked to have seen a little bit more attention paid to Glen
>Campbell teh session musician.

HELLO!!!!!!!! NITWIT!!!!!!!!!!! That's the ONLY reason Glen Campbell is even
remembered! :) Have you EVER listened to one of his albums? :) I didn't think
so! :) Stick to what you know, if ANYTHING!

Before I killfile you again for the 234th time...why don't you put you tiny,
little country music intellect on the line. Instead of just sitting in the
cheap seats taking pot shots, who would you add and delete?

A LOT of people agree with you! It can't be a top 40 list of greatest
men in country music without Marty and Ray at the top of the list!!!!
And to leave them off all together.... the list can't be considered
valid.

I consider the list invalid too

Duh, I guess I don't get out much ... when did the Eagles become country?
