Shania Twain & Husband Split
Originally posted Thursday May 15, 2008 02:00 PM EDT

Shania Twain and her husband, producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, have
split, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

"Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange, are
separating after 14 years of marriage," spokesman Jason Owen says in a
statement. "This is a private matter and there will be no further
comment at this time."

Pretty much inevitable and long overdue, I guess. Having said that,
what makes this fascinating to me, is what will happen to her music.
I've always said that a producer is the single most important decision
you can make as an artist, and to have the success she had, and then
change producers (I assume) is going to result in a very different
sounding Shania Twain.

I'm not a big fan obviously, so I don't know if her music will be
better or worse, but it will definitely be different. Probably the end
of the road for mega-success.

music business and now its just about her doing what she wants
musically.

I'm also curious from a male point of view of seeing who she will be
dating in the future. She's still a major hottie at 42 and I could
see her dating much younger male singers or actors. Plus probably
have an out of wedlock child with one of them. ;-)

I always thought she was full of herself and not all that hot. I couldn't
stand all her exaggerations about her impoverished, "Native American"
upbringing. She is clearly looking to "trade up" but I do not think she is
all that.

Maybe.

Hope she doesn't turn into one of those Sara Evan's types (i.e. hubby looked
at porn, he accuses her of sleeping around, decides she needs a fast
divorce, decides her prancer-dancer is hotter and wants him on her tour and
laughs during her Dancing With the Stars departure (that was sick!), and
soon dates a football player). Okay, Sara Evan's just doesn't have the
stage presence of Shania either having seen both in person. Shania seemed
to enjoy being onstage and fluid. Sara seemed like "I want to quit now" and
her movements are very forced.

Shania's hard part will be in trying to win Nashville over if she tries to
remain country. They could not stand for her success in sales nor her
looks. A very jealous and envious bunch. A few stood by her (Reba esp.).
Reminds me of the Faith Hill outburst over Carrie Underwood.

She took the tramp route and married her own record producer, kind of
like Mariah Carrey. I couldn't care less what Shania Twain does from
now on.

I don't think she ever exaggerated. She grew up in a mining town in
northern Ontario where unemployment was quite common. As for being
"Native American", she has never claimed any such thing. Her step-
father is native, and she has always said that he is her true father,
as he was the one to raise her. People just deduced that she was
native as well.

Apparently she was quite the accomplished horizontal mambo player back
in the day, before Mutt.

BINGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. Secondly, I'd be willing to bet part of my vast fortune he
was the one who either picked the songs, or maybe even wrote a lot of
them .

> However now she's established and Shanias core fans wont give a damn

Exactly, but I don't mean to infer that where you record them amonts
to all that much either. You need to re-read that a few times. : ) It
still comes down to the song, and someone has to "get" them and
understand what makes a good country song. Like her or not, "Who's Bed
Have Your Boots Been Under" was a great song, and had EVERYTHING to do
with Shania's success.

Therefore, if Shania Twain elopes with Hank Cochran, Dean Dillon, Alan
Jackson, Ken Mellons, that guy who writes for Chesnutt (Nesler ? ) or
a handful of other guys she could be around a while. If not, she'll be
like Garth Brooks. Nobody will take her seriously, BUT ... you're
right she still might sell a half million copies of her next
cd . : )

I mean she DID sell a gazillion CDs. Let's be honest Country Music
fans made legendary sellers out of Shania and Garth Brooks. Clearly
one of the nicer things you could call them would be "boobs" . : )

I'm not much of a country follower but, since I haven't heard much from
her the last couple of years, I figured that she took her money and was
being comfortable. I don't think she likes to tour, she had as much
money that she needed to live really comfortably (especially
considering her upbringing) so I just figured she was going to hang out
in private.

My prediction is that she *still* will be hanging out in private from
now on. Just Muttless.

Please. It makes a HUGE difference. Women were raised to be users, not
creators. Think of a human sponge. Secondly, the FACTS speak for
themselves. With few exceptions, women don't get music, never have,
never will. There have been scientific studies that explain the left
brain/right brain differences.

Please, Linda Ronstadt ps a Bimbo and only knows her way around a
manicurist's office. Secondly, an "excellent David Lindley album", is
an oxymoron, like "jumbo shrimp" or "military intelligence" . : )

Sorry, honey . NOT TRUE ! After Gail Davies, trust me idgit, it's a
VERY, VERY, VERY short list.

But thankfully you're here to enlighten us ! Obviously some kind of
higher intelligence, I guess . Just what planet exactly are you living

EXACTLY ! Or the soon to be released album full of Shania's original
song ideas AFTER Mutt showed her the door.

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE .

Again, ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE ! Gretchen Wilson's been in the headlines
this week and she's a classic example. On the other hand nobody has
more clout than Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood and they can barely
get arrested.

>
> This all depends on how much she wants to do. She might be like

Please. You're obviously obsessed with Ronstadt . Do you still have
the altars to her in every room in your trailer ? Get over yourself.
Ronstadt didn't retire , she was kicked to the curb . How many new CDs
do you think Shania will sell if she puts the Ronstadt feed bag on,
and balloons up to 250 lbs ? How many CDs do you think Shania will
cut with Nelson Riddle and his string section ? How many CDs do you
think Shania will cut of Native American War Chants for her father/
step - father ?

Ronstadt was/is a very cruel, self serving, bimbo . End of story.
Steve Martin who certainly has no axe to grind, touched on some of it
in his book. She was no different than Shania , in that a lot/most of
her success was based on her looks, and when her looks disappeared, so
did her sales.

The native controversy stem from remarks Shania made about her mother
telling her she had native blood. Her family, however, denies it, and
since the mother is dead, who knows what the truth is.

Shania was adopted by her stepfather jerry twain. He was an Ojibwe
Indian. Under Canadian law, that meant that Shania was considered to be
an Ojibwe. In addition, she was very involved growing up with her
stepfather's family. So on both accounts she very much saw herself as
part of that native american tribe.
