Hi,
I read in another post that the Garth Brooks video The Thunder Rolls was
banned, why was it? I never saw it, besides 2 seconds of it on a radio
station ad.

i believe it was banned because of teh domestic violence in it.... in the
extended version on the song, the woman kills him.... this verse is not
included on the video, but it is depicted.....this is what i heard anyhow,
please don't attack me if i'm wrong

It really is odd about "The Thunder Rolls"as Garth and his producer cut out
that one verse.. although I cannot remember the reason. His co-writer, Pat
Alger also recorded it with that verse left out. So it was odd that there was
an artist who recorded it before Garth or at the same time as Garth....... this
singer did not release her version until way way later.... she finally included
it in her box set... and HER version had all of the verses INTACT. The
singer's name? TANYA TUCKER!!!

Meanwhile, Garth was singing the song in concert with all verses intact and
until DOUBLE LIVE, the only way to get it was to buy the video tape or laser
disk version of the NBC special, THIS IS GARTH BROOKS.

The reason is due to domestic violence. The reason Garth wanted to have this
video is to bring to the surface all the domestic violence in the world. It is
happening and there needs to be something done about it! Garth DID play the
part in the video of the abuser (husband). I saw an interview with him and he
said, "I wanted to be the most hated man in the world. I wanted all Americans
to hate ME, not some stranger in one of my videos."

The video should NOT have been banned. The fact that domestic violence is
being committed all over the world needs to be faced. That is what Garth was
trying to get across in this video. When they banned this video, they did not
think of all the good and all the eyes it has opened to help some women get out
of these kinds of relationships......And I DON'T mean using violence!!!!!!!

Thanks

I second the comments of Sssy2975.

the video should NOT have been banned.

domestic violence is very real in today's society. women do not have to put up
with it. using a gun is NOT a real answer,,,,,, however there may be a life or
death situation where it is the only recourse.

Garth had guts to make the video. However he should have kept the verse in
his original studio recording........ oh well. It is out there on Double Live.

Because it was about spouse abuse. Garth played the hubby who came home
and smack the wife around and then she got a gun and shot him. The censors
complained that it was too violent.

I have the video... I got it a long time ago on his first VHS tape. I think
it's called "Garth Brooks." The tape came out right after all the commotion
over CMT and TNN banned the video. Oh great... I'm sure I just did it... now
someone's probably going to argue that waaaay back in 1992 (about) Garth wanted
to boost his sales so he created a video that he knew would be banned so people
would buy his VHS to see it... Forgive me ahead of time folks!

Thanks for the info.
I read about a Sawyer Brown video being banned too because it had a 10
second WWF scene in it.
They shouldn't be banning so many, I doubt everyone wants to the see the
same videos over and over every few hours, and the artists goto alot of work
to make them.
I wonder how many others they've banned.

well, supposedly, that Sawyer Brown video wasn't banned just cause it was WWF,
but because they said that part of the video had nothing to do with the song
(or the rest of the video). i don't know, i've never seen the video... but i
agree, i don't think they should be banning so many videos either

"The Thunder Rolls" by GB has also been available on a single for quite a
few years, but I'm not sure if it has all the verses.

I believe you are right on that one. My son was only about 10-11 when the
video came out. THe first thing he says when it's over is "Mom, wonder if
Garth's wife hated seeing him in that role?" I din't even realize that the
husband was Garth because of makeup and hair.

We love it!

I agree with Sandy.. they shouldn't be banning so many videos either, nor
should they be cutting them. Other artists who have not been banned, but HAVE
HAD their videos edited at one time or another:

Dwight Yoakam
Martina McBride
Vince Gill
Randy Travis

Luvless.. you're almost there with your Lari White reference...

Lari had a video for her single "Wild At Heart", which took place in some
mental institution. However, after some initial squawking, Lari voluntarily
had the video PULLED off the video channels herself before any more people were
offended.

well... I think that as far as the Holly Dunn song (something about "Maybe I
Mean Yes") and the Pam Tillis song ("I Was Blown Away") are concerned - they
pulled the whole song from rotation - not just the video. The videos had
nothing to do with the songs being pulled.....

Tell me this... If they didn't play the Sawyer Brown Video... because 10
seconds didn't have anything to do with the song.. then why did they ever
play Shania's video ... DOn't be Stupid... Rain Dancers didn't have a darn
thing to do with the song !
That wasn't the reason .. They had other reasons... Think about it.. then
they be banning alot of videos for reasons that it didn't have anything to
do with the song !

You mean it's banned south of the border? They've been playing it on
CMT Canada at least a few times in the past couple of weeks alone. And
blind person that I was, I didn't look close enough to see that it was
really Garth who played the husband.

Yes, that was Garth playing the abusive husband in the video ....
matter of fact Sandy was mad as hell about the video, until it was attacked
and she stood behind her husband on it 100% !!

One thing I'm wondering about it...whenever CMT Canada puts it on the
playlist (at the website), they always mark it with a "-D-" and I can't
figure out what it stands for. None of the other videos have that, and I
thought that it might mean that the content was excessive, or that parts
were edited out, or that it's the short version. Anyone know?

The thunder rolled for Garth in 1640. How do I know? I was there, and no I'm
not crazy - ask Garth's friends. Garth was once Ryan Fitzgerald, an Irishman
from the 17th century. Not convinced? I am. You must judge for yourselves.
Please do me the honour of checking out my web page on
