The Shania article contains a new photo of Shania. (She looks much better in
the new photo thanks to a lot less make-up.) I don't know if there is a photo
with Faith's article because no one has posted it *if* there is one.
If you want to see the Shania article & the New photo of her, go here:

Here's what the whole thing says:
THE HOOK In praise of the tortoise: While Eminem was spouting off about his
mother and Britney was writhing with serpents, the top-knotted and flat-tummied
queen of country-pop crossover has been quietly shoring up her strength as a
commercial colossus. Shania’s last album, 1997’s Come On Over, has sold 19
million copies in the U.S. alone, tying it for the sixth hugest album in
American music history. Still for the past two years or so, fans haven’t
heard a peep; In 1999 Twain and her husband/producer, the reclusive power-riff
warlock Robert John “Mutt” Lange, moved to a chateau in Switzerland (yes,
Switzerland), where they had a baby (son Eja) and tinkered away at their next
twang-and-bang manifesto.
THE BRIDGE Tinkered slowly. Although UP! Is officially tagged to launch in
November, there have been rumors it could be delayed, possibly until next year.
If so, blame both a management shake-up (In August Twain parted ways with
manager Jon Landau and hooked up with Q-Prime, Metallica’s firm.) and a
too-rich profusion of material: Twain says UP! Might have 19 tracks, with
different versions (glossy globo-country, bright Supertrampy arena-pop)
engineered for different world markets. “I know I have pop fans, I know I
have country fans,” Twain says “I want them both to be entertained by what
they’re hearing.”
THE OUTRO EW has heard four of the under-wraps new tunes; true to the album’s
title, the new stuff has more pom-pom-weilding pep than Kirsten Dunst in Bring
It On. “It’s up and it’s cheerful,” Twain says. “We wanted to enjoy
writing it, we wanted to feel up about the whole thing, so we just ended up
gearing everything towards a very positive feeling.”
The article is interesting & it proves Kevin to be right on about what *is* and
*isn't* on Faith's new album. To go ahead and get this out of the way: Faith
is *Not* going back to country. Faith mentioned the types of music that were
on her album and country was *not* among them.
Some of the more interesting things in the article is that Faith's new album
contains at least 1 song that was written by, of all people, PINK!
For those who don't know who PINK is, *this* is Pink:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/020830/170/255ak.html

The Faith article is in my Next post....
THE HOOK: If comparisons must be made, Hill is probably closer to Minnie
Riperton than to Minnie Pearl these days. "Because of the songs I chose to
record, [the album] certainly is more evident of the music that was my first
influence," she says, "and that's the music of the church. The material allowed
me to go futher in that direction-gospel, R&B, soul. A LOT of soul. Probably 80
percent more than the last one." Her original fan base at country radio isn't
even balking. "So far the response [to the single, also named 'Cry'] has been
really incredible-I've actually been a little bit surprised!"
THE BRIDGE: Hill relied on many of the same producers and songwriters used on
1999's Breathe. BUT LOOK FOR ONE SURPRISE IN THE CREDITS: A song co-penned by
the decidedly non-Nashvillian Pink.
THE OUTRO With rumors that Shania's album could be bumped in 2003, Hill may
have the miltiplatinum country-pop-crossover-looker market all to herself. This
fall it'll be her party, and you can Cry if you want to.
Right now, that "delay" rumor is just that: a *rumor*!
If you consider the timing of the "Entertainment Weekly" article, that "delay"
comment might not have even been in there if it was being written today.
Shania was confirmed to be a CMA performer on Thursday. The issue hit store
stands on Friday and Saturday. So, that article might not have included that
"delay" mention if they had known about the CMA information.
Right now, I *don't* think the album will be delayed. She's already done too
much promotional work for the album to be delayed again.
>I know I have pop fans, I know I
>have country fans,” Twain says “I want them both to be entertained by what
>they’re hearing.”
>
Is that what the saying "straddling the fence" means??
No. It's actually a smart move both in terms of marketing and in terms of
keeping both sets of her fans happy.
She's supposedly releasing one country version of the CD and one pop version.
If she were to quit doing the remixes, her pop fans would be unhappy about
that. If she were to quit doing country versions, then her country fans, such
as myself, would be unhappy.
btw: According to all of the different people who have heard part of the album
(4-6 of the 19+ songs) say that there is at least 1 *very* country song on the
cd & one other one that is described as "new country."
Ironically, the supposed lead single "I'm Gonna Getcha (Good)!" is getting
mixed reports. Overseas reports say that the song is very pop. Reports from
U.S. people have generally said that it's very country. I guess she played the
country version for the U.S. people and did the pop version for people like the
Norwegian reporter. That's the only way to account for the *huge* difference
in the descriptions.
I *hope* the country reports are true.
Beginning to look an awful lot like spam.

Oh really? I wouldn't even mention any of those people in the same post
with Hill. Riperton was a hell of a singer, Hill is not antwhere close.
Minnie Pearl was invilved in great cgarities in Nashville, and quite a
classic comedien. People all over the wordls could laugh at Pearl's
jokes --- but Faith Hill is just plain laughable.
That joke of a magazine should be titled Entertainment "Weakly".
Yes, and partly to the fact that no one gives a damned about Shania in
Europe. You could probably count the people on one hand who bought her
albums in Norway.

Your point?
You could probably count the people on one hand who bought *a lot* of artists'
albums.
No. Believe it or not, some people have told me they had trouble reading it.
Sorry that not everyone is as 'perfect' as yourself...
You're so wrong it's funny. "Come On Over" was the U.K.'s top-selling album
of 1999, and has been certified 10x platinum there (which means 3 million sold,
as platinum is 300K is England.) "COO" has sold 18 million units worldwide,
about half of which were in Australia/Canada, and the other half in
Europe/Asia. "COO" was also the top-selling album in all of Europe over a
two-year stretch - 1999-2000. Shania also sold out every venue she played
across Europe when she toured there, and she was playing arenas in some cities.
You could probably count the people on one hand who bought her
>albums in Norway.
If you have hundreds of thousands of fingers. "Come On Over" was a #1 album
in Norway, as it was in more than a dozen other countries. The U.S. is one of
the only countries that the album didn't go to #1.
Long black dress? Mirror?
I don't keep up on new Faith photos, but I think I've got one similar to what
you're describing.
I posted a link to it in another thread. It looks more like she's wearing a
black bathrobe, but this is the only one I can think of:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/review/music/0,6115,345716~4~0~cry,00.html
Either.
of those people in the same post
> with Hill.
You did.
Riperton was a hell of a singer, Hill is not antwhere close.
How close? What ants? Is your opinion supported by some general
consensus?
> Minnie Pearl was invilved in great cgarities in Nashville,
She was also involved in some great charities. I wasn't aware of
her being invilved in any cgarities, please tell us more.
and quite a
> classic comedien.
Did you know she was also a comedienne (gender specific)/ comedian
(gender neutral)?
People all over the wordls
How many wordls? Two wordls? Three wordls? More wordls?
could laugh at Pearl's
> jokes
I'm sure they could, unless they have no vocal chords. Do people on
wordls have vocal chords?
As for the world, people all over it have laughed at Minnie Pearl's
jokes. People all over the world have also enjoyed listening to Ms.
Hill's music and have bought millions of her records. Or should that
be millons?
--- but Faith Hill is just plain laughable.
No, the joke here is undoubtedly you. Troll.
and a one, and a two, and a PLONK.

How often do you go to the U.K. and Europe then?
Fuck off. It's typos in a post sent away in too much of a hurry. Who cares
anyway? It's not a bloody english class anyone is conducting here.
The numbers already proved you wrong. Quit while you're behind.
They don't mean anything. Ask anyone on the street in Leeds, London,
York,... or which ever you choose, and they'd tell you she sucks.

They were probably buying Steinar Albrigtsen CDs! :-)

Np. :)
The Shania article and photo are on page 59 of the issue.
When I flipped over the page to page 61, I found a *Huge* new photo of Faith.
The photo literally covers the whole page.
That photo of Faith just shows you that the 'old' Faith is *not* coming back.
The 'new' Faith is in love with water, push-up bras, and 'accidently' exposing
her bra.
The photo is neither natural-looking or tasteful for a promotional photo for a
new album. She should save that stuff for the men's magazines.
You're right Kevin.
In January of last year, 2001, "Come On Over" hit sales of 7 Million copies in
all of Europe. ....
http://www.ifpi.org/site-content/press/20010206.html
It's been a while since "Come On Over" received new certificiations in a few
countries. It should be receiving new certifications soon. :)
I am biting my tongue in a huge way.

Well, as if there was any doubt about where Faith is heading...
It seems that cowboy hats were *not* allowed at the taping of Faith's NBC
special in L.A.. Fans were told to "leave their cowboy hats at home."
Read about it in this article from Launch.com:
Faith Hill Performs Free Concert
09/18/2002
(9/18/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Faith Hill fans in Los Angeles were treated to a free
performance by the superstar in as part of her upcoming NBC Thanksgiving
special Tuesday (September 17) night. Six hundred lucky fans took in the
concert at The Palace in Hollywood, which was filled to capacity. In addition
to barring the usual cameras, recording devices, pagers, cell phones, and large
bags, fans were also asked to leave their cowboy hats at home.
Hill has been taping segments of the special around Los Angeles for the past
week. Sunday's (September 15) planned taping at the El Rey Theater had to be
canceled after the building was condemned due to safety issues, but will be
rescheduled at an undetermined location. Hill's new album, Cry, hits retail
outlets October 15. Her current single, "Cry," sits at Number 12 on the
Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

Thought about it and just can't do it. Can I ask what is your point to
*bash* Faith, when you dont want anyone to say those same things about
Shania? Why did you find it neccessary to bait Faith fans. With your
comments that you, just made is all you could do is start a thread war with
Faith fans. Can't you ever leave things well enough alone? Now IF her fans
come here and start up with you about Shania, do not scream foul...
Barb
Amazing. I wonder what's next....

Interesting...
There have been threads where I, nor any other Shania fan, has brought up
Shania's name & self-proclaimed Shania haters have brought her name up and
bashed her. Then, when Shania's fans respond, you guys say "quit bringing her
name up."
Those who don't like Shania need to Practice what you preach...
And? Is the 'old' Shania about to make a reappearance? Is the cover of Up!
going to be another faux tundra scene, complete with sled dog? What's your
point?
--
Jon Weisberger
Btw: I forgot to ask: What is *your* point when you, and others, *bash*
Shania?
Like I said: Practice what you preach...

Considerations of security? Note that large bags were also banned. They
might have feared that weapons could be concealed in cowboy hats.
: In article <20020918161629...@mb-fe.aol.com>,
You don't have a clue do you ?? You hate Faith so much its okay for you to
trash her, but it's not okay to trash Shania, for the same thing. Your
Double Standard is showing.
My comments about Shania, has stayed with in the music .... Yours are
personal.
apparently you like a fight, if you didn't you would of kept your opinions
about Faith to yourself. You won't have it with me. I am just really
disappointedd that you felt it was neccessary to fire the opening shots.
Just when I started to really enjoy your post !
Barb
I don't know. Tim had a larger crowd at his taped special and I did *not* hear
anything about him or his people banning cowboy hats.

What about boots?
(A Kelly Willis song comes to mind...) ;->
Your not alone Barb! Just be careful, reading this girl's posts could
cause you to bite it off!
