Little Joe will be replacing Davey in Drive Time and Rick Lovett from the
Wolf in Dallas will be replacing Lisa Dent. No one has been named yet, to
replace Harley on Middays.
The only one they kept is Leslie T Travis.... this is getting
interesting.... stay tune....
Barb
Why? What is the story behind the firings?
P
No one can top Hudson and Harrigan (and Jim Bob) on KILT in Houston!

From what is being said around the station the ratings suck.... but, from
what I am being told there is much more to the story... so it's now a hurry
up and wait...while I am prodding for answers.... looks like I am going have
to bribe someone with a Pie from the House of Pies... lol
Its going to be fun to watch and I am dying to know who they are going to
replace Harley with......

I bet a lot of big city stations that had considered taking a chance on
alt.country are having second thoughts right now.

After KIKK-FM Houston made a series of airstaff adjustments last week, Infinity
senior VP Bill Figenshu offered the station's advertisers a "money-back
guarantee" to allay fears that the station would leave the country format. In
a letter to clients, Figenshu wrote, "Please consider this letter as my
personal guarantee that 95-7 KIKK-FM will remain country throughout my
tenure...If 95-7 KIKK-FM changes format, I will pay each active advertiser on
the station $100,000.
My personal feelings...Infinity's Houston cluster PD Darren Davis screwed up
when he took the station to an alt. country format and the DJs have been paying
the price. The station was fine as it was before he started changing things.
They lost one of their best when JD left the station soon after Davis came
onboard as PD and I feel it was a huge mistake letting Lisa Dent go. She's got
a great reputation and lots of friends in the Houston area who were associated
with the station because of her.
Davis has even been trying to sway listeners from KIKK to KILT (sister station
and competing country station in Houston) like he's trying to make KIKK fail.
His last actions during the turnover at the station have convinced me to switch
stations....to KKBQ 92.9!!!!
To each his own, but in my humble opinion, KKBQ is a joke, pure and simple.
That 52 minutes of music is all fine and good, but I don't know why they'd
think I gave a damn how many more commercials KILT played than they did in the
last 24 weeks or whatever it was they say in their promo ads....one thing about
it, at least KILT doesn't play the same songs over and over. I remember a
couple of weeks ago, I was listening to KILT one night just before The
Tradition came on, and the deejay was inviting listeners to call in and tell
her what pissed 'em off, drove 'em crazy and stuff like that. She had several
listeners calling in to bitch about KKBQ and their constant bashing of KILT.
One listener called in and told her that he had the misfortune of having to
listen to KKBQ at work one day....and they played the same song (he didn't
mention the name of the song) 4 times in 6 hours! I'll take more commercials
and better variety ANY day over 52 minutes of music an hour and hearing the
same song 4 times in 6 hours.
All he really had to do was copy KPLX in Dallas and he would have been fine.
But I think he was afraid of hurting KILT. But yes, the direction he went
was wrong, and his peers (particularly the PD in Atlanta) are all laughing
at him. It has killed any chances for Americana music on big time radio
stations.
Knowing what I know.... Bill Fingensu was behind the format change over at
KIKK.... as well as many other things that happen over at KIKK and KILT.
Darren is doing what Darren is told to do.... Bill Finginsu use to work at
93 Q before he went to New York.....

Yeah, I totally agree, though I did find it interesting to hear what those KILT
listeners had to say about 93Q. But what I'd like to know is, why don't they
think the same thing over at 93Q? Why do the people in charge think it's so
cool to talk about KILT like that? I'm guessing they think that the attitude
that comes across in those promos will lure listeners, but as for me, I find
them very immature, as well as unprofessional. Sounds somewhat short-sighted as
well, if you ask me....they play all that music, but with that much music in an
hour, combined with their millimeter-long playlist, makes things very
repetitive over there. I guess they think the listeners won't care, but I
certainly do care. I don't want to hear the same 30-40 songs from the last 10
years over and over again. There was some great music that came out in the
years before 1990, a lot of which doesn't get played because country radio is
so concerned with the here and now. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need
to stay current and fresh with new music, but even new music played over and
over is gonna wear out, especially with the way they're doing things at 93Q.
One day last year... I was bored of listening to Rowdy, so I was scanning
stations. I was in the car... On KIKK they were playing a song I really
liked, so I kept it there and my intentions were to change the station and
get over to the oldies station as fast as possible....
This is when KLDE was close to KIKK .... well, the dj was talking about how
KIKK was playing fewer commercials than KKBQ... okay, I was already
bored...so I decided to switch over to KKBQ to see if that statement was
true.... The first thing I heard was.... if you don't hear 6 songs in a row
you can win 5,000 dollars... Hey that sounded good to me.. LOL !
Well, I didn't stick around and made my way over to KLDE... and I started
thinking. How many listeners that was listening to KIKK did the same thing
and heard the exact same thing I heard. How many of the KIKK listeners went
back to KIKK or how many of them stayed to listen to win 5,000 dollars with
the Q. Do I need to tell you the laugh I got when I talked to my bud at
the station. Matter of fact, I can still hear him howling... lol
Its never a good idea to discuss another station on the air... for the fact,
that you can lose listeners. And none of them can afford that.
Barb
I like what the station plays. Maybe it's something that will build
with time and who knows, in a couple of years all his peer and you
might be sitting here calling him a genius. The old saying - you have
to spend money to make money.
Stan
That's because they're #1. If the situation was reversed, they'd be the
ones getting fired. I don't think I said that KILT had changed. They made
their changes a while ago.
What I was saying was if they had turned KIKK into a copy of KPLX, it would
have taken listeners away from KILT.

Other way around. Infinity bought the station from Westinghouse.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that there's nothing KIKK
can do to attract a country audience again in Houston? I read here all the
time people saying there are all these unserved audiences in country music
who want to hear their favorite songs on the radio. KIKK attempted to
satisfy one of those groups, and failed. I expect there are a lot more
people in Houston who are unhappy with both KILT and KKBQ. But I think
we've seen the last of a major market station messing around with Americana
music.
Usually you can immediately discount a story when it begins with that
intro.
So since you're supposedly 'in' with a station (and which one is
that?), you shouldn't be discussing other stations. ;-)
Stan
You see what you don't understand is ....Houston is consider to be a very
unforgiving city.... and when KIKK fired everyone from the GM to the
Janitor... keeping only Danny and Lisa.... And went with Moby in the
Mornings. They lost their following and haven't regained it. KIKK, is a
dying horse and has been for over 7 years...... The best thing they can do
for that radio station...is change its call letters and format. Its losing
numbers and the audience everytime they try to tweak it....but, then
again.... Bill Figensu who ran an ailing 93 Q in the ground, has his reigns
on KILT and KIKK... He is leaving the station that is thriving alone...but
running the sick one more and more into the ground as he did 93Q.
The big mistake was to bring in a dj ( MOBY) that was run out of Houston
about a year earlier. For many many reasons and none of them were good.
Yep there has to be alot more people unhappy with KILT and KKBQ..... that is
why KILT is sitting at number 4 and KKBQ is sitting at number 10 in the
city.... because there are a lot more people unhappy with them then KIKK...
You don't live here and you don't know the history first hand... You didn't
live .. .see it or breathed it....
You will never realize the power KIKK once had in this city and I mean
power...... that is now down the toliet.....
Barb
Didn't you post a whole bunch of changes KILT made in its programming a few
months ago? With more older music at night? Or was I dreaming?
> You see what you don't understand is ....Houston is consider to be a very

That's one way to describe it. I don't think the general public is as into
the individual personalities as you.

And the minute they do something that a big chunk of people want, all those
bad memories will be erased. It happens everywhere. Consider how far down
KPLX went in the late 90s. I read dozens of articles about how that
station was going to change formats. They brought in a PD from a rock
station in Atlanta, and everyone said it was changing formats. Now it's the
#1 station in Dallas. And it's still country.
You would be surprised on how well Houstonians know who is who on the radio
here.... But, its also amazing who I know ! and How I know alot of
things...that I don't post publicly...
CB...they have been trying to save that station since it sank to the bottom
and its like the Titantic...its not budging..... The only way to save it ...
is to change its call letters and its format.... You don't have a clue to
what KIKK use to be to Houston..... and KIKK is just stuck in the darn
sand... not going anywhere......
Barb
Actually, I do. That's why I gave the example of KPLX in Dallas, and what
they've done there to go from last to first. It can happen anywhere. Even
Houston.

If it ever was (I certainly never thought KIKK represent (the entirty
of) Houston), it still is. I mean, I think of Houston as "Space
City". :-)
Remember Love Street? 13th Floor Elevators? Moving Sidewalks?
Thanks, I will. The fact that their advertising mentions KILT doesn't bother
me in the least. What bothers me is how rude I've seen Rowdy Yates be to
people and the lame comedy called the Hudson and Harrigan show. The biggest
reason I won't listen to KILT or KIKK anymore is Mr. Davis. See, you aren't
the only one with an inside track here in Houston.

You would be wrong on both of these assumptions. I've never worked for a radio
station or Darren Davis in any way and can proudly say I've never tried to get
anything free, or anything period, from either of them.
Why you've decided to try and attack me personally is beyond my understanding
