Travelers from the North,

Ray Frick called me last night while stuck in a major traffic jam near
the Greenville Exit (#213, south of Staunton) in Virginia. He didn't
know if this was a night time construction, but traffic was forming a
single lane.

I could not find anything in AAA or Virginia Department of
Transportation about construction in that area of I-81 though there are
reports of construction in other areas (PA, MD-WV stateline, New
Market-Harrisonburg) and on I-64 near Clifton Forge.

I will post if I hear more.

just found probable cause:

8) Interstate 81 - Augusta County:

Nighttime paving will reduce the following locations to one lane from 7
p.m. - 7 a.m.; I-81 S between mile marker 207 - 210; I-81 S between mile
marker 214 - 215. Estimated completion: fall 2004.

The company (B&S) that is doing the paving finished 8-3-04. They will be back
out there in a month but night time paving near Raphine, VA has been completed
for the time being.
