Hi Maxine,
Blue Ridge Mountain Square Dance Time was recorded by Bobby Patterson in
1972. The full cast, in addition to Bobby and Kyle, are Pete Lissman and
Roy Russell on guitars, Dave freeman on mandolin and Katie Golding on
bass.
I beleieve Bobb posted that Virginia Reel was recorded in 1973. (All I
have is a tape of some of the cuts on this LP, but I bet it was a similar
configuration).

Who is it that Katie is kin to? Norman Edmonds maybe?

I'll think of CMT next time I'm singing "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."
Joseph Scott
Please send lyrics to Foggy Mt Breakdown and Tab for Boot Scootin'
Boogie
I kid, no offense ;_) For me, it is hard to get perspective on country
music as a whole. I love the older stuff. Cannot measure the newer.
By the way, ;_) is the emoticon for nose bent out of shape

The only versions of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" I've ever heard are
instrumental.

Unless there are multiple songs with that title, it's a Brooks & Dunn tune.

Anyway, Acuff:Garth::Ellington:Yellowjackets. No?

As I think you got, the joke was... CMT identified "Foggy Mountain
Breakdown" as one of the very greatest "songs" ever, and it ain't even
a &*$%in' "song," so I reckon I'll think of CMT next time I'm doing
something that could hardly be done at all, which _is_ about as often
as I plan to think of CMT.
I like "Boot Scootin' Boogie." But then I like "Pistol Packin' Mama";
it ain't Land Norris but it's a good time. (But then what was Norris,
really, but another good time? Norris:Acuff::Ory:Ellington.)

You guys are reminding me of an IQ test I took back in high school,
except that in that case, one of the terms in the ratio was a question
mark, and you had to supply the answer.
So here's one:
OTM:CMT::Uncle Dave Macon:?
And when you answer the question, you'll know why the whole thread is
inappropriate for this newsgroup, or for any newsgroup on this planet.
But then again, I've always been on the side of inappropriateness.
crassly,
Lyle
I find the question mark to be answer enough, and would remove the
discussion even further from the neighborhood, to a parallel (and
inferior) universe, perhaps.

The question mark is the answer! Wow! Why didn't I think of that when
I was taking the IQ test?
Lyle
Still and Mama sang a song were huge hits in the sixties
He spent the last forty years entertaining
As for Garth Brooks as far as im concerned he isnt country
dave russell the phantom rider of internet
I can't answer the question because I don't know what CMT is. Or
maybe I've already answered the question correctly.

These mostly feature Fred on fiddle (gee, too bad:^! I love Freds' version
of Arkansas Traveler).
Coming later will be another set, and some selections from the Banjo
Workshop which also occurred that weekend.
