Received a review copy in the mail today. Here are some
highlights from an old-time music perspective:

Run, Boys, Run: Pete Seeger and chorus, with
Fiddlin' Arthur Smith (unfortunately you don't hear
very much of Smith; he gets one short break)

How Many Biscuits Can You Eat?, Lily May Ledford,
Rosalie and Bella Allen, and Will Geer

Smoky Mountain Gals, Lily May Ledford, Rosalie and
Bella Allen, and chorus with Fiddlin' Arthur Smith

Dance All Night with a Bottle in Your Hand,
Fiddlin' Arthur Smith and Woody Guthrie
(nice fiddling, but this cut is only 30 seconds)

Bonus Tracks

East Virginia Blues, Lily May Ledford

Sugar Babe, Lily May Ledford and Pete Seeger

Gypsy Davy, Lily May Ledford with Rosalie and Bella Allen

Note that this is a 1944 Ballad Opera produced for the
BBC. It was never broadcast or released in the United
States though it did come out as a 78 album in the UK.

It's on Rounder as part of the Lomax series. I don't
see it on County Sales' or Elderly Instruments' pages.
I don't see it on Rounder's page; it's part of
a new series called "The Concert & Radio Series,"
which is also not shown. Must not be officially
released yet.

The full information is:

Concert & Radio Series: The Martins and The Coys
Rounder 11661-1819-2

Recorded in New York City in May 1944.
Produced by Alan Lomax, written by Elizabeth
Lyttleton, and directed by Roy Lockwood. Notes
by Dave Samuelson. Afterword by Robert Cantwell, Ph.D.
37 tracks.

Who the heck are these "Coys"? It was The Martins and The Puchalskis, not
some Coys.

How are you going to rhyme or meter "Puchalski"?

After a few rounds of Polish honey-flavored
vodka, it's quite easy... everything rhymes
with Puchalski then.
Kerry

PS, "ot content" -- Stuffy Puchalski is a fine
old time fiddler.

It's easy.

There once was a man named Puchalski,
Whose name drove the poets to frenzy.
They said "How to rhyme it, get the meter in time with it?"
But I said rhyme "Puchalski", "It's easy".

Consider appropriate apologies made....

Old-time fans/musicians living in or passing through the N.C. Piedmont
are invited to come to:
OLD-TIME NIGHT at CHILANGA'S in CARRBORO
This Thursday night will be the first of what restaurant owner/banjo
player Jacques Menache hopes will be a regular event at Chilanga's
Restaurant in Carrboro, NC. Chilanga's is a wonderful Mexican restaurant
in a little shopping center on Jones Ferry Road just before HWY 54.
It's a few blocks west on the right as you head out of town. The music
will start at 8:00 PM. There's a little stage, a small sound system and
a nice little dance floor for flat footing. It's to be an open stage
format with a guest band each week. The first guest band/hosts will be
the County Commissioners - Jim Collier, Dwight Rogers and myself.

Cool! Sounds like a future reason for a Bobcat road trip! I've eaten there
and it is great! Home style Mexican searved buffet style by the pound. The
just weigh your plate at the check out and you pay for what you took.
Nothing I like better than food and old time music!
Nancy
