I've just finished editing the first in a series of Tommy Jarrell videos
entitled "A Visit with Tommy Jarrell: Solo Fiddle and Stories," and thought
some of y'all would be interested. I'll have some copies of Volume 1 available
at Clifftop and Pinewoods. Apologies to the disinterested for the long post.

The footage has been professionally edited (very sparsely) and is taken from
rare home recordings made by Steve Barasch in 1984 with a color VHS camcorder.
The series features Tommy playing solo fiddle on over 50 pieces with
occasional singing and some instruction on a few tunes. There's also plenty of
talking as Tommy holds forth on everything from from his mammy's education to
learning music. Tommy's dog Bolivar makes frequent appearances to snore
through a tune or knock over Tommy's beer.

For those of you who never had the opportunity to visit Tommy, this is as
close as you're likely to get. The sound is more than adequate and Steve had
the good sense to frame a shot that included all of Tommy's fiddle and bow arm
and then just left the camera alone. He sat down near his friend and teacher
and commenced to visiting, recording some of the most candid, natural footage
of Tommy I've ever seen.

Steve shared this footage with Paul Brown and me and we felt it was just too
priceless to hog it all to ourselves, so here it is. There will be three
videos in the series, each about 60 min., and any profits will go to Tommy's
children, Ardena and Wayne. Cost will be $30 ea., plus shipping. Volume 1 is
G, C, and D tunes. Includes Pineywoods Gal, Devil in the Strawstack, Sugar
Hill, Texas Gals, Forky Deer and 10 more.

For more info, please email me off-list with the following subject:
JARRELL VIDEO

If folks would rather have more details onlist, I'll oblidge. Don't be alarmed
if I don't respond immediately. My ISP has been real squirrely lately.

Regards,

Heath

I've gotten so many requests I'll just post this to the list. To order the new
video ("A Visit With Tommy Jarrell: Fiddle Tunes and Stories, Volume 1")
please send a check or money order for $34 ($36.25 for CA residents) to:

Palmer Media
1816 Wright Street
Santa Rosa, CA 95404

I'd prefer this to selling them at Clifftop--it'll just be too hard to get
them and instruments and camping gear into my carry-on bag. I expect to ship
the first orders out in late August since I'll be on the road until the 18th.

Thank you.
