I hope I'm not seriously breaching list etiquette with this, but I'm
writing my dissertation on the old-time community and am gathering
personal input from individuals. I'd like to know the why, when and
where of your engagement with old-time music. Further, what is your
involvement now? In short, "why old-time?" and "how does old-time fit
into your life?" This could include your feelings about the music, the
community, what and how you like to play (and with whom and in what
situations), where you were and are, who your influences are/have
been, how you learned/learn, and what part of your life does old-time
occupy? And any other thoughts you would like to share...
If you would like to respond off-list, that would be really great. My
name is Amy Wooley, some of you have seen me at Clifftop and Fiddle
Tunes and various other places over the last 3 years - I've been doing
my fieldwork for my Ph.D. at UCLA. Now the time has come to write it
all up! I hope to hear from some people I've met and meet some new
people.
Please excuse the intrusion and thanks for anything you'd like to
share,
Amy Wooley, C.Phil.

If this url is too long for you try searching for
"What got you hooked on old time?" at

made sure you check of "search only in rec.music.country.old-time"
