Has anyone run across any sites or friends of old time music that have
live old time music shows available for downloading via Bit Torrent. I
really enjoy getting to hear shows I've not been able to attend across
the country.
Many Thanx-

the only two I've come which have anything in this vein are

1. Etree
http://bt.etree.org/

an excellent site for bluegrass - the only old-time stuff I've seen
have been some doc watson concerts (excellent), and a couple from The
Sweet Spot (up in Portland OR) including the Crooked Jades and the Earl
Brothers. If there are any tapers out there who tape OT shows, this
would be a great place to upload them.

2. Internet archive
http://www.archive.org/details/etree
this has lots of live recording, but again no OT - the closest again
would be various bluegrass bands and some young bands like Donna the
Buffalo, Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band

Getting live recording onto these sites would be a great way for a band
to build a following

BTW Both these sites have about a million Grateful Dead recordings!

look on the Portland OT group, it seems like they record and upload a
lot of live shows:

Yes, Mark Burgin and Chip Russell post links there. They have taken on
the task of documenting the Portland old-time and bluegrass scene
including the Old-Time Gathering. They record tons of performances,
the latest at http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=501365. Its a house
concert with Josh Cole and Curt Alsobrook.

Personally, I can't figure out how to use that bit torrent stuff and I
don't have the time to learn it. I've heard it and it sounds real real
fine, but the software and presentation are not designed for us
dumbos.

Bill:

If you were dumb, you could pick some nettles, and that would make you
smart. As it is, your problem, like mine, is that you're getting old,
and that condition has no known treatment. When I need an answer to a
question such as "who bit Torrent?" I go find someone who's two
generations younger than I.

(P.S.: It was great to meet you in Berkeley, and I'm sorry your band
didn't win, place or show in the contest, even when you had the help of
a dancing bass case.)

Next year we are taking off our clothes. We may not win, but neither
will anyone else because it will take too long to round up the
scattered crowd and get them back downtown to finish the contest. We
thought the dancing bass case would be the deal maker, until it
gobbled up Evie's little boy and made him cry. Its hard to find the
right gimmick.
