The following came in to the OTH and we dcon't have a clue. Does anyone out
there know anything?
Alice Gerrard

My mother used to sing me a song as a child (50 years ago), and now that
she's gone, I desperately need to know the words and information about this
song. "Poor Little Glad Rag Doll" (that's all I know). Can you help me?

Thanks. Ebuch...@aol.com

The best I can do is note that there was a popular music
hit dalled "Glad Rag Doll," written in 1929 by Milton Ager
and Dan Dougherty, lyrics by the ubiquitous Jack Yellen. Yes,
a Tin Pan Alley song. It was featured in a movie (possibly a
short) also in 1929 called "The Glad Rag Doll," where it
was sung by one Dolores Costello.

Paul Whiteman's band also recorded it that year, featuring
Bix on a cornet solo. Earl "Fatha" Hines made a go of it
in the '40s, Johnny Ray had a his in the early 1950s.

Like a lot of Tin Pan Alley pieces, it may have made the cross-
over in to "folk song," though I've never encountered it.

A websearch on "Glad Rag" turns up numerous hits on that
word combination, many pointing to CD reissues of vintage
recordings, which is where I would start looking if I
wanted to get the lyrics. I couldn't find it listed on any
of the lyric websites I frequent.

Best of luck with further searching.
