I wrote several songs that CJ did. I met him in Pee Wee's Cafe in Austin. We went to my apt and after playing him a few of my songs we arranged a meeting the next day with Texas Crude Publishing. They signed a couple of my songs that CJ did on the County Mountie label. Most of my songs went on cassettes he sold at truck stops. My song was on the B side (45rpm) of CJ's popular song "Jesus Lives in Garberville."
I'm not sure but I think he died. There is some info on him that I've seen online but you have to dig because this slut with the same name was on Baywatch.
I never quite figured CJ out. The last time I saw him I was invited to a pre-session party at a nice studio in Austin where CJ was recording. Most of us left when they were about to record. I never saw him again or made a dime. I never expected to but I have to say he was the one that introduced me to the music business. I promptly sought paying work but I will always be grateful.

Hi I met CJ in the early 80's, maybe 83 or 84, when he was recording with Texas Crude Publishing, Tommy Hill 's studio, I think, and Steve Mendell's. He did these 2 beautiful songs that I think about still. I forget the name of them. Steve gave me a 45 record with both of them on it. Id give anything to know where it is, I dont remember how I lost it. I remember the lyrics were something like ..I love you just a little too much for my own good and I think about you a lttle too often than I should, and I just cant seem to get you off my mind cause I seem to think about you mostt all the time and I love you just a little too much for my own good. I may have a couple words off but most of it was that. It was really beautiful. I wish I had the copy again. I do have his cassette My Way or the Highway, somewhere in my stuff. Ann in Austin
