Help Identifying Classical Piece from Move Running on Empty

I am desperately trying to identify a classical piece of music that appears
towards the beginning of the 1988 movie Running on Empty. It is played in
the scene where the character Danny Pope (River Phoenix) is playing a
piece for his new High School teacher, Mr. Phillips (Ed Crowley). Is
anyone familiear with this?

no luck. They list original music composed by Tony Mottola and four pop
songs, but nothing classical. I haven't seen the movie, which is
supposed to be very good, so I have no personal knowledge of it.

A Google search suggests Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique, 2nd movement.
