I've got a 20 year old recording of the Vienna Choir Boys singing a
collection of Strauss waltzes and polkas (Johann Strauss Waltzes &
Polkas--The Vienna Choir Boys--RCA Victor Gold Seal #09026-61235-4).
According to the liner notes,
"The waltzes and polkas sung here, many commissioned from Strauss by
choral societies, either were composed to original lyrics or had words
put to them later on..."

I've looked all over for lyrics, but, so far, no luck. Can anyone
suggest a source or book? Here's a list of the songs...

An der schonen blauen Donau (On the Beautiful Blue Danube)
Bitte schon (If You Please)
Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald (Tales from the Vienna Woods)
Sangerslust (Singer's Joy)
Rosen aus dem Suden (Roses from the South)
Vergnugungszug (Excursion Train)
Unter Donner und Blitz (Thunder and Lightning)
Kaiser-Walzer (Emperor Waltz)
Leichtes Blut (Light of Heart)
Wiener Blut (Vienna Blood)

BTW, if you aren't familiar with this album, I can strongly recommend
it!

Thanks for any help...

David

A few of them can be found in the Strauss volume of
Denkmaeler Oesterreichischer Tonkunst, an old historical
series. Major libraries should have it.

Incidentally, one reading of the (original!!!) words
to the Blue Danube Waltz will explain why it's performed
without them.

(Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, on the other hand, has some
small charm to it...)

I know there's at least one Marco Polo CD in their Strauss series
that includes choral versions of JSII's dances. The booklet might
include lyrics.

There was a recording by the King's Singers a few years ago
of lyricized versions of Strauss dances, but I think all of
these were modern German lyrics adapted to the music.
(The "Weiner Blut" lyrics were about Austrian vampires, for
example.)
