Learn how to change the sound that plays when you get a call, text, email, or other notification on your iPhone or iPad. Choose from a variety of built-in sounds or buy ringtones from the iTunes Store.

I purchased a ringtone through the tone store but it isn't showing up in my list of ringtones. I saw online while browsing for a solution that you should be able to just tap the purchased ringtone in the tone store and a menu should pop up with the option to make it the default ringtone- however tapping the purchased ringtone does not pull up a menu or anything for that matter.

I was worried perhaps it purchased it as a song rather than a ringtone but again- I bought it in the tone store amongst other ringtones so why would it be in there if I couldn't use it as a ringtone right?

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with a purchased ringtone. To make sure we've got it right, you are following the directions outlined in article, Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, right? If you're not seeing the option in Settings > Sounds & Haptics to select this tone, have you tried assigning it to a specific contact? If not, give that a try and see if it works.

Yes I've followed the instructions that you had linked above, the ringtone isn't showing up in sounds & haptics and it also doesn't show up as an option when I try to assign it to a specific contact. When I initially purchased the ringtone from the tone store, I never got a pop up asking me if I wanted to assign it as default or to a contact right then and there. I'm not sure why.

Thanks for following up. Just to make sure we've got it right, this was purchased through iTunes, right? What's the iOS version you're using? This is in Settings > General > About. If your iOS is up-to-date, it might be a good idea to contact iTunes Support just to make sure that everything went smoothly with the purchase and to see if they can provide tips on how best to get your new ringtone to show as an option.

after updating to iOS 8.1.1 I have lost ringtones that I've purchased. I'm using an iPhone 5 and i really don't want to have to keep buying ringtones over and over again if they are disappearing. I checked in iTunes for purchased ringtones and they aren't showing up.

It's happened to me a few times. I noticed it on Friday (the day after I'd bought 2 ringtones) I got the email bill and if you look on that, underneath the tone name it says report a problem, click on that and select the option for tones not downloaded, itunes will put it back in your downloads. It takes about an hour to go into your downloads but it will eventually. I've done that 3 times so far! Until they fix the bug I doubt it'll change.

I have downloaded twice six ringtones but these have disappeared once after restart and second time even without restarting my phone. The ringtone comes back to default. No solution from apple support has been provided apart from resetting the phone. This does not help. Apple needs to resolve this issue at the earliest

Hi update Ringtone has gone if iphone again goes back to default tone when iphone is powered on Apple have refunded cost of tone Tones don't save like downloaded music. yet a Ringtone I have for over a year works With no problem. Apple are looking at this problem. Cheers Brian

I've had the same very frustrating problem for the past few days, with purchased ringtones not staying on my device (iPhone 6 on 8.1.1). The only way i could work around it was to find the original ringtone file in the iTunes library, make a copy of the file, renaming it with an m4r extension, deleting the original file, and then resyncing with my iPhone.

Connect your iPhone to a Mac/PC with iTunes installed. Select you iPhone in the toolbar, locate your iPhone under Devices in the sidebar and click on Tones. You'll should be able to locate the purchased and custom ringtones.

If you're not all that impressed with the inbuilt tones which come with your device, you may have already purchased ringtones from the iTunes Store. However, we will also cover how to create your very own ringtones from music you already have in your iTunes library!

But what if you want your iPhone ringtones on your shiny new iPhone or Android phone, or even on your computer? No worries - this is pretty easy to do, and we'll take you through the steps you need to accomplish this quickly and easily.

This first method is an essential skill to have on your toolbelt, as it's required to be able to transfer your ringtones to another iPhone or Android. Whenever there's a need to copy media from an iPhone to a computer, you can't go wrong with the TouchCopy app. TouchCopy is an incredibly handy and powerful tool which allows you to copy music, messages, photos, contacts and more from iPhone, iPod and iPad to your computer - functionality that iTunes simply does not provide.

If you just need to transfer some great ringtones to your new Android phone, or if you need to copy over all your contacts, music and photos too, you can use the trusted and popular TouchCopy software.

Great! Now that your Android contains the ringtones you copied from your iPhone; you can set them in your device Settings. Settings vary from device to device, but you can generally find your ringtone settings in Settings > Sound/Notifications > Phone Ringtone.

If you've recently bought yourself a new iPhone, you're going to want to access your existing ringtones on it, right? This is super easy for your purchased ringtones, but it's a different story if you want to transfer custom ringtones to your new device.

If you have ringtones that you've created yourself, ringtones that were not purchased from iTunes Store, or if you are running iOS 10 or lower, you'll need to use an alternate route in order to transfer ringtones from iPhone to iPhone:

In this section we'll show you how to make a song in your iTunes library your ringtone on your iPhone. Note that iPhones are restricted to only use files which are 0-30 seconds long as ringtones, so if you wish to use a song as your ringtone, you'll need to cut it down to your favourite bit.

What do you think of buying ringtones from iTunes Store? Do you buy ringtones or make your own? Do you have a favorite ringtone or text tone? Share your perspective, opinions, and thoughts in the comments.

I can certainly help to clarify what may have happened to your ringtones. It must have been a bit disconcerting to find them gone! What make & model phone do you have? Are you referring to the ringback tones other people hear when calling you, or the ringtone you hear that plays on your phone when you receive a call?

Thanks, Heather296. Those tidbits were very helpful to get your ringtones back on track. Are you able to set your phone to a ringtone that came pre-loaded in the phone and hear it ring instead of just vibrate? Is this trouble occuring with every ringtone you've ever purchased or just the 2 specific ones? Where did you purchase the ringtones from originally?

Thanks so much for keeping us posted. We're glad you were able to get that up and going again. We know how important ringtones can be! Sorry for the hassle and I hope you have a great day! Let us know if we can help out in the future.

No matter what phone you use like iPhone or Android, one of the tiring things you have ever suffered is the default ringtone. Every new phone will be put the pre-loaded ringtones by manufacturer. So where to buy the ringtones? How to purchase ringtones? That's what we shall show you in this page. Keep reading to find the answers.
