Late last year while browsing through a magazine, which may have been
Harpers, or the Wilson Quarterly, or The Atlantic Monthly, or maybe it
was a mail-order book catalog, or ??, I saw an ad for a set of 8 to 10
cassettes which presented the History of Classical Music with examples
by a "series of experts." I've been paging through back issues of
magazines for the last few weeks, but can't find the ad. So, I
finally figured, that even if I did find the the offer, it may well be
for a set of tapes that are truly awful; why don't I ask on the net to
see if anyone knows of a GOOD set of tapes that presents this
material? And, here I am.

Did anyone else see that ad? Or, does anyone have any suggestions?
The intended application is to give them to an intelligent friend that
has expressed an interest in learning about classical music.

I once heard a set of tapes from Laissez-Faire Books that presented a
VERY skewed picture of classical music. If I remember correctly, the
thesis was that Liszt started music downhill, and by the time we get
to Wagner, it is no longer worth listening to. I wonder what Margaret
and Todd would say to that? :-)

Anyway, all comments and suggestions appreciated. Thank you.
