Hi...

My name is Amanda and I just found this group
today. I'm a freshman music education major at
the College of New Jersey - violin major. For my
voice class we have to have a brief description of
the composer who wrote our piece. I was assigned
"My Lovely Celia" by George Monro (1680-17310). I
can't find any info on the web about him and was
just wondering if anyone here has possibly heard
of him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Amanda

I have found two possibles
Less likely
George Monroe trumpeter was appointed 1669 and died 1671. He was a trumpeter
appointed to the English Court to attend Lord Henry Howard in his embassy in
Morocco.
George Monro or Monroe was an 18 th century organist at St Peter's in Cornhill
London and played the organ and harpsichord in the Goodman fields theatre from
1729 until his death in about 1731.
He composed a number of vocal pieces which were in great favour in the 18 th
century.
Some were transferred to The Merry Musician 1728 to 1729, Watts Musical
Miscellany 1731, Walsh's British Musical Miscellany 1733 1734 and Fielding's
Temple Beau acyed in 1729
(source a very old copy of Groves Dictionary )
Hope this helps
