Don't imagine it will really contain many recordings of interest I don't already have, so I doubt this will even make it onto my radar screen once the full details are known.

But it might be an interesting alternative for those still in the market to own everything WAM.

No, Deutsche Grammophone.
There will likely be dupes of rare material with the Philips set, but it will likely use original DG materials wherever possible.

I've seen the first part of the set now, and the choice of recordings is
somewhat as Randy thought, i.e., previously-available DG recordings, but
not entirely. The symphonies are split between Pinnock, Hogwood,
Bruggen, Minkowski, and Gardiner, with a heavy emphasis on the first two.

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is well-represented, too, in the
divertimenti and serenades, but there is a lot of Boskovsky, ASMF, some
Bruggen, and even some Edo de Waart. There appear to be some new
recordings with the Accademia Bizantia/Ottavio Dantone (K. 408, K. 522,
K. 525, and K. 546).

The Perlman/Levine violin concerti we not selected. Rather, it's
Mullova/OAE, Carmignola/Abbado, Standage/Hogwood, and Beyer/Banchini in
K. 190.

The piano concerti are largely Bilson/Gardiner and Levin/Hogwood, but
there are several "supplemental" discs which duplicate repertoire, but
with different performers. More symphonies, with Abbado, Vegh, Maag,
Jochum, Szell, Boehm, and Britten. Piano concerti with Gulda, Uchida,
Brendel, Anda, Curzon, and Bernstein (K. 450).

The booklet helpfully points to other places in the box where a piece
can be heard in different versions.

More on the other volumes later.

Kind of an odd assortment---lots of HIP and then we have Szell, Brendel and Bernstein in the mix too. Is this some kind of mysterious curation, or just whatever DGG can get its hands on? But it does look like a very interesting set so I guess they did their job well. Now let's talk price....

I've looked through the other booklets now, and though I don't have the
time to list all the different performances, I think this set is a
well-thought out enterprise. Of course there will be quibbling about the
selection of one performance over another to represent any individual
work (they went with the Oestman Figaro), but in several instances they
also include a bonus (like the 1955 Erich Kleiber Figaro).

I have the original Philips Mozart Edition, and while I wouldn't want to
be without the texts/translations included therein, this set appears to
me more diverse, and more comprehensive. There are quite a few discs'
worth of "doubtful" works, and an enormous number of alternative
recordings. Oh, and Mozart's arrangements of the works of others are
featured.

Given the duplication of performances in the Philips Edition, I will
probably not put this on the top of my Amazon list, but anyone without a
lot of Mozart could do much worse.

I couldn't guess on price, but it's 200 CDs.

Willem, I don't think it would be wise to assume there will be texts & translations, but one can hope. Remember the DG Wagner Operas box from 2011; there were very fine texts & translations included via password-protected WWW link, which could be downloaded as PDF's. Then, a year later the Universal Classics Complete Verdi Operas box came without any such web access to texts & translations. So, it's 50/50 that Mozart 225 will have them...but I think they will be included. After, all this is an "official" release.

<< Mozart 225 will be launched in the Mozart Wohnhaus in Salzburg in August and released worldwide in October.

Mozart 225 ‒ The New Complete Edition is a landmark joint venture between the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and Universal Classics (Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Philips, ASV etc). The result is the most authoritative, complete, lavish and up to date tribute to the world’s greatest composer and genius.

200 CDs ‒ 240 hours of music, over 600 solo performers and ensembles, 60 orchestras and the finest Mozart interpreters of the past 50 years. Including 30 CDs of alternative performances, 5 hours of brand new recordings including on Mozart’s own instruments, premieres of previously-lost compositions (including the „song of joy for Nancy Storace“ K 477a) and for the first time every performable fragment, the completions, arrangements and doubtful works. Two lavishly illustrated hardcover books include a brand new biography written by one of the leading Mozart scholars of our age, Professor Cliff Eisen, with complementary chapters by experts from the Mozarteum Foundation.

Access to the numbering of the Stiftung’s forthcoming new Koechel catalogue is also included in a “K book” as well as beautiful frameable facsimiles of Mozart scores and letters. A separate 33 DVD box of the complete operas from Salzburg Festival productions complements the CD box.

The Philips Edition was 25 years ago. But this newcaet does have two books inside. Who knows? Maybe there will be printed ones after all, by some sheer cosmic stroke of good fortune.

Didn't they reissue the Philips set cheaper but without the texts and documentation???

Inside the booklet for the section of the box of Mozart's "Theater"
works, the following is printed:

"For libretti and translations of sung texts
please see Limited Edition certificate
www.mozart225.com"

I saw no texts or translations printed in the booklets. I infer that
each box will contain a certificate with a code to be entered on the
set's website.

Complete listing of contents and performers at the DG website (in the catalogue).

Not the ideal sort of complete edition in my view: Different performances all mixed up of the symphonies, concertos, sonatas, i.e. most but not all the piano sonatas with Uchida. All the piano concertos with either Levin or Bilson and then some extra recordings on modern instruments with a number of different performers. Violin concertos split between Mullova and Carmignola and supplements by Mutter and Hahn. And so it goes.

Of note, they state that over 70% of the contents are different than the 1991 edition.

When I read through the booklets, it appeared that many of the more
obscure operas and vocal works are recordings that were used in the 1991
Philips set, which I also have.

The Amazon.uk website disables currency conversion for the preorder of this item because the release of the item exceeds 14 days in the future. It seems that the US dollar price may be dependant on the exchange rate when the item actually ships. The exchange rate today is very favorable for US purchases (1.33 dollars = 1 british pound) but that may change.

Price pre-order in SE SEK 1.880. Less than 180 Euro. According to Ginza.se and Cdon.se. Seems like a rather mixed bag. Nutters like me will buy this one for the odd whatnots at that price, but not more.

I hate uninformative, inane, self-centered posts like this as much as you do, but...MINE SHIPPED!! From Amazon US and scheduled for delivery on Saturday (10/29). Between Mozart 225 and the new Immortal Performances releases and the Charles Munch Sony box, I think I am done acquiring for the rest of the year. What riches these sets are, though. Glory be!
