Watching this now on TCM. Typically stupid story and costumes, but one of the earliest full technicolor films. Silent with a soundtrack added prior to release in 1929. Uncredited, but bits if Die Valkure, Flying Dutchman, Parsifal and Grieg's opera Sigurd Jorsalfar. No indication who did the recording.

A hile back I watched this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Nibelungen

made by Fritz Lang in 1924. I think I watched it on Amazon Prime, but
it's nno longer available there. It had a very 'Wagnerian' score, though
as far as I could tell there were no actual Wagner quotes. Not sure who
the composer was.

Pretty impressive.

A little more searching discloses Gottfried Huppertz as the composer. He
also wrote the score for Lang's Metropolis.

Some late 1920s silent films had an orchestral score added to them (+ occasional bits of dialogue) - Hollywood made no distinction between "composer" and "arranger".

Probably the first time an audience heard the MGM lion roar.
