Thanks for the post. The track listings are not yet on the DG web site,
but I'll watch for them. I wonder if any "new" material will be
included, or just the same old recordings (good though they are).

I wonder what other compilations we'll see from DG - a box containing
all of Kempff's recordings would be an obvious one.

What I am wondering is didn't he have more than 9 CDs worth of DG
recordings?

I wondering where did they get 9 cds worth material? Counting 4 DG
originals and Richter in Memoriam double cd makes only 6 cds, with
some of the solo pieces duplicated. Maybe they publish the songs with
Fischer-Dieskau in same box? Or some Decca stuff, who knows.

Off the top of my head, The Rachmaninoff PC 2 with Rowicki,
Tchaikovsky PC 1 with HvK, a CD of solo Schumann and Beethoven/
Schumann PC.

Would be nice to see the Prokofiev Sonatas from the GPOTC get re-
released.

Not sure how to get 9, but there should be more than 6:

Tchaikovsky/Rachmaninoff concerti
Schumann conc + fillers
Prokofieff 5th conc. + 8th sonata and fillers
Beethoven 3/Mozart 20

2 CDs in memoriam

more solo Schumann (mono)
some Scrabin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy?
I don't think all of it was included in the in memoriam set, was it?

No, not all. There was an earlier Dokumente disc that had some of the
same material as the In Memoriam set (Debussy, Prokofiev Visions
fugitives) but also Scriabin's Fifth Sonata.

And the Originals disc with the Schumann Concerto used as filler some
solo material also on another Dokumente disc of Schumann but not a
selection of six Fantasiestucke, the March in g, or the Abegg
Variations (although that last is included in the In Memoriam set).

Will definitely be interesting to see the complete contents of this
box and nice to have this material in one convenient set, like the DG
ABM set from a few yrs back.

Do all Philips recordings not belong to DG now?

If it's like the Argerich box the CDs will be short (= original LP
programs) so Rach 2 will be coupled with 6 preludes, Tchaikovsky
concerto will be on its own, etc.

Beethoven PC 3 with Sanderling. Prokofiev 5 with Warsaw Phil. Mozart

Correct.

There are NO new recordings in this set. The individual LPs are
reissued in their original couplings in the manner of the Sony
Original Jacket boxed sets of Horowitz, Gould and so on. Perhaps even
in paper sleeves with the original cover art.

Dvorak concerto, Schubert Wanderer fantasy, also on Philips, those are
worthwhile. And a weird recording of Schubert's D840, too. I wouldn't
throw out any Richter if a box were planned. He was always
interesting, even when he was simultaneously being weird (or, in
retrospect, missing the mark).

I'm not sure if we'll see anything new. There are the 4 Originals cds,
the 2 In Memorium cds (missing the Scriabin 5, which can fit
elsewhere), the 1 Schumann solo cd with some pieces duplicated on the
other discs, and the 2 lieder cds of Schubert and Wolf. That's 9
total.

Presumably because of duplication and short timed cds like the
Prokofiev Originals release there would be room for at least 1 full cd
worth of new material if there is some reshuffling of the above. I
know that there is some unreleased stuff in the vault, like a few
Mozart piano sonatas from the early 60s, in addition to other
recordings taken from Richter's live Italian recitals in the early 60s
from which some of the DG releases were drawn, such as the Scriabin
5th and other pieces found on the "In Memorium" set.

cheers,
Tony

It will be a missed opportunity if DG does not include new stuff, for
they would only have to include a CDs worth of unreleased stuff to get
all of the Richterphiles to buy the upcoming box. I am only missing
the lieder CDs and hate duplicating things I already own.

"New stuff" wouldn't seem to be applicable for a set named "Complete
Deutsche Grammophon Solo & Concerto Recordings".
