I'm not a NY Times reviewer, but I know a sexy dress when I see one.

Other than the dress, not a very inspiring performance (not that the
Schumann typically brings down the house at the pianophiles):

I do admire her very rigid posture though!

What do you think about the outfit she wore when she performed the Tchaikovsky PC #1 at Zubin Mehta's 80th birthday celebration?

It was nice - but not as glamorous as the Schumann!

P.S. I notice the first thing she does is a head flick to make her
hair bounce when she starts up.

I find it hard to take her princess body language and facial expressions. She might as well wear a diamond tiarra while performing.

The 3 greatest women pianists of recent times (IMHO, of course), Alicia DeLarrocha, Martha Argerich and Yuja Wang are completely unaffected at the piano, musically and personally.

Unless you consider Yuja's outfits to be an affectation.
They certainly are a distraction.

Mentioning Yuja Wang in the same breath as MA and AdL
is beyond idiotic. It is brain fucked imbecility!
Especially the notion she is "unaffected"!

This isn't really news, and I regret that KB is becoming as
obsessed with fashion as is Yuja Wang. Two years ago KB gave
a recital in SF wearing a silver fish scale dress so bright
that it caused temporary blindness in a large fraction of
the audience.

While I do not share John Gavin's enthusiasm for Ms. Wang, nor yours for Ms.Lim , John Gavin has demonstrated quite often here he is neither an idiot nor an imbecile.

You overlooked the IMHO. And I agree with the OP that Yuja Wang is unaffected at the piano. I see no difference with Argerich. DeLaroccha is sui generis. A truly great pianist and musician. Yuja Wang has yet to prove herself in the next decades.

It's far too early to include YW in such a list. Beatrice Rana, for example, is 6 years younger than YW, yet already a finer and more communicative pianist.

Like all eastern bloc gals, she was pioneered into the straight spine posture from a young age :)

Just speaking about appearances, YW seems a whole lot more charming and fun to be with than KB. If anything YW still seems shy and nervous in her fancy dresses. KB on the other hand, though smouldering, would get on my nerves with her whole posturing BS. Can't say I'm interested in hearing either one. They're both in the hipster movement of commercialising every nook and cranny of the world.

They're both trying to make a living in the penurious world of a
classical pianist.

Their agents advise on how to sell tickets, and not how to compete with BR.
The sad fact of life is that most come to see a show.

Thank you Steve.

I'm not sure it's free - it might require a subscription to Medici TV, but it's well worth it!!
I have subscribed in the past - many wonderful concerts and recitals, including the excellent cellist Gauthier Capucon in 2 recitals with Yuja Wang, much Argerich, Hamelin, and others. I think there might even be a recital or 2 by Princess Khatia :) I am hoping that Verbier will invite Benjamin Grosvenor some time soon.

John, I'm pretty sure it's free, and usually available VOD from 2 weeks to 60 days after, only then do you need a subscription to access it after 60 days.

http://www.wqxr.org/#!/story/tune-yuja-wang-plays-brahms-schumann-and-beethoven/

Both will be archived I believe.

Except on WQXR , those here interested wont be able to see her dress(es), shoes,hair,etc....

Thanks for the link. I am very curious to hear her
play Kreisleriana. So far I have not seen or heard
any evidence she is crazy enough to do it justice.

You're welcome. Kreisleriana is a work I rarely connect with , my fault I suspect , so will be interesting to hear hers.

BTW , try to hear Philipp Kopachevskiy's Kreisleriana at 2011 Tchaikovsky, one of the few with which I have connected :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNXKvyr9_is

And Kopachevskiy is a little crazy. Hear his “ La Valse “ also from 2011 Moscow :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVy5bs5XAvE

Both these must hears, IMHO.

As is Kopachevskiy's Rachmaninoff 2nd Sonata at 2011 Moscow :

Steve,

Thanks for the link to Yuja Wang's Carnegie recital. It was, as expected, very easy to listen to. Not that I haven't heard a more interesting Brahms, Schumann and Beethoven. I would have applauded her performance but not as enthusiastically as the audience did.

That's just an attention-getting headline. Read that full review, plus
several others.

That's what I noted after hearing her Carnegie " Hammer " ; it sounded too easy.
