Hi Randy,

Thanks for the helpful post.

I am trying to find the 9 CD box set on the Venezia label entitled
Sviatoslav Richter-The Early Recordings". I cannot find it on that HMV
Japan web site. Is there any special way that I must search for it that
I am not aware of?

Incidentally, I just found out that Venezia is a bootleg label, and not
made in Russia, which may explain why that label is not easy to find.

Thanks.

Mort Linder

I haven't heard about it. If you find out more about it
can you share it with this newsgroup?

They can be sloppy: I've got a 16 CD Golovanov box on Venezia
and the only Liszt tone poem listed anywhere on and in the
box is Mazeppa, but it actually is Les Preludes, which is good
because that piece conducted by Golovanov is hard to find.

Hi,

Yes, of course I will. The company obviously has gained access to some
Russian master tapes, and the past Venezia sets that I have are good.
However, I don't even know what country the company is located in.If I
get any new info on this topic, I'll be glad to share it.

Not sure the mastertapes are all that is needed for Yudina.

I recall that the Goldberg Variations required hours and hours and hours of remedial work. Very costly. The problem was that the original tape dropped in pitch in each variation. We corrected it, but that single "mastertape" cost a great deal of money.

It is very unlikely that this pirate outfit will take the time and effort to do that kind of work. Or that the "mastertape" they may have acquired will have been corrected.

Buyer beware.

If you are interested in how many records Yudina made you might try a site mentioned earlier in rmcr. (A thread on Yudina.) It was Yudina.org or something like that, maintained by a fan who offered the complete Yudina recordings he knew about or could obtain on a set of fairly well-filled CDRs. These were needle-drop recordings from Melodiya LPs.
In addition to the Brilliant set (better than needle drops!) there was a VistaVera set. You might look for that to compare with Venezia.

Here is the Maria Yudina Legacy contents, now to be found at Douban.com, apparently chinese.
