To promote their 57 CD box of DGG recordings, the BSO had a little
contest on facebook to win a copy of the box. You just had to comment
on what your favorite BSO recording was. Here's the comments,
(slightly edited) in case you're looking for recommendations on what to
listen to (at least they're the favorites of at least one person!):

Matthew Brown Has to be the Mahler Second Symphony with Seiji Ozawa
leading the BSO and the Tanglewood Chorus. A perfection combination of
the Orchestra, Chorus and outstanding soloists lead by one of my
favorite conductors. But that's a Phillips recording.... so it may not
count.

Christie Hitchcock Ravel "Daphnis & Chloe" conducted by Charles Munch.
I studied with Harold Wright and my advisor was Roger Voisin. I ushered
at Symphony Hall while in grad school. The BSO will always be my
favorite orchestra.

Mark Lutton My all-time favorite is the three-LP set "Debussy, Ravel,
Ives, Ruggles: First recordings on DGG by the Boston Symphony Orchestra
and Boston Symphony Chamber Players."

John Sullivan Bernstein-The Final Concert. I grew up watching Leonard
Bernstein explain classical music to children on TV and have always
been fascinated by him. This recording made at Tanglewood, a place I
love very much, makes me feel even closer to this super star of
classical music.

Matt Bardin Its a tie between Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition with
Koussevitzky conducting and Pines/Fountains of Rome with Seiji Ozawa

Martin Massini Ezcurra Great idea. Next should be the reissue of all
the recordings by the Boston Pops on Polydor/DG/Universal Music, not to
mention RCA (maybee too bulky, unless you make it available to download
only)

Marcus Thompson Another vote for Mahler's Symphony No. 1 conducted by
Maestro Ozawa, but some of these other titles sound incredible! If I
don't win, can someone please give me this for Christmas? haha!

Derek Bacon The BSO performance of Shostakovich 2nd Cello Concerto with
Ozawa and Rostropovich was a revelation when it came out in 1976 and
the accompanying BPO Tchaikovsky 'Andante Cantabile' and BSO Glazunov
'Chant du ménestrel' made for a still-treasured cd.

Donald Moisen Shostskovich ...Symphony 10... Heard it by several
orchestras, including Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, in Prince
Mahidol Hall. I own the BSO cd.

Timothy Tikker My favorite?! That's so hard to narrow down! It'd
probably be Charles Munch directing the complete Ravel Daphnis et
Chloé.

Ryan Moser Gustav Holst The Planets & Richard Strauss Also Sprach
Zarathustra conducted by William Steinberg. It is my favorite because I
bought it at Symphony Hall the first time I saw the BSO.

Yigal Agam Mahler's 1st with Seiji Ozawa on DG. Won 1st place in a
blind listening session I held with some friends, against some tough
competition!

Patrick Fowler Shostakovich 5, 8, and 9. The 3rd movement of 8 is so
clean, and I love the tempo changes in the 4th movement of 5.

Thomas Roth William Schuman Violin concerto with Paul Zukofsky cw
Walter Piston second symphony. BSO Michael Tilson Thomas.

Christopher Reikies For me it is Andris Nelsons conducting of
Shostakovichs 5th Symphony. It is probably my favorite recording of
Shostakovichs 5th Symphony!

Dawson Weber Carl Ruggles, Sun-treader and Charles Ives, Three Places
in New England; Boston Symphony Orchestra, Michael Tilson Thomas on LP
