Could someone give me the names and addresses of some good classical CD
stores in Toronto? What would be a good price for a full-priced CD there?
Thanks.
The 3 best classical music stores for CDs are the following:
1 - Sam's Records (Yonge St., just north of Dundas St.)
2 - HMV (a few doors south of Sam's)
3 - Tower Records (Yonge St. at Queen St., a few blocks south of the
other two HMV)
Happy shopping.

The three biggest record stores in Toronto are all within a short
walk of each other on Yonge Street. "Sam the Record Man" is on
the east side of Yonge, just north of Dundas (opposite corner
from the Eaton Centre). HMV is just south of Sam's on the same
side of the street (I think the street address is 333 Yonge St.)
Tower is at Yonge and Queen (northeast corner?).
There are other, smaller, classical-only CD shops scattered
throughout downtown Toronto and the suburbs, but you probably
can't get anything there that can't be bought at the three stores
mentioned above for slightly less.
For new, big-label, single-disc recordings, expect to pay between
CDN$17 and $23. Naxos run about $7.

Atelier Grigorian is on Yorkville Ave. just west of Bay St. (Yorkville
Ave. is the street two small blocks N. of Bloor). I've found several
imports there that I couldn't find on Yonge St.
The Classical Record Shop is in Hazleton Lanes, a sort of upscale
shopping mall at the corner of Yorkville and Avenue. Their niche is
historical recordings.

I found Sam's to be the best and the only place I bought anything on a
visit to Toronto last November. I found a sealed brand-new out-of-print
Olympic CD of Bacewicz music there still in the rack. HMV and Tower did
not pan out for me.
If you are from outside Canada, get a GST refund form on the way in and
read it to know how much you have to spend at any one place in order to
get a refund. I was short by a few dollars Cdn and might have bought
another CD to get that money back had I known that beforehand.
